Hey folks, new to the forum, great site with lots of info, but i havent found much on wheel bearings. I have a 2000 sr5 v6 4wd with a loud whistle/whining coming from the drivers side front tire. It sounds like a wheel bearing. the stealership wants 450 Per bearing to replace. Im mechanically inclined but i dont have a press. Im thinkin i might pull the assembly and just have them press the new stuff in. Anybody have any suggestions or is there a write-up on front wheel bearings? its got 105k on it, the brakes are primo up front, fairly new pad/rotors. anything else it may be?

if money isnt tight i would just pay the stealership, if it is... well get a case of beer and start taking stuff apart. im replacing my rear bearings and seals, but its a little easier in the back. tomorrow im replacing the front seals but not the bearings. with the IFS you have to remove alot more stuff that isnt fun, but it is very possible and not really difficult. most tire shops will also have a press, just make sure while your in there you replace your seals also. heres my thread on yotatech abt replacing the rear bearing and seals

Thanks Kyle, I noticed today that theres no "constant" whistle for the first 5-10 minutes of driving, only when i touch the brakes. But after that its constant, sometime a tad louder when im on the brakes. the rears probably need replacing but im almost 100% its coming from the drivers front. Well anyhow ill be lookin into it on saturday if weather permits up here. Kyle, think you can take a few pics while your doing the front seals?
