Wheel Lug Nut Stud Replacement

Hey Dudes,
[MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] and I have another video for you. I helped [MENTION=94292]Patriot12[/MENTION] (aka Paul) yesterday replace a broken wheel lug nut stud on this 5th Gen. Even though it was done on a 5th Gen, the technique we used would be the same for a 3rd Gen.

This is a pretty simple, non-mind-blowing video but maybe it will help somebody out who's dealing with a broken lug nut stud.

Nice video, we had to replace 5 of them within the first six months of owning ours. All 5 were on the same wheel. Also instead of using washers we tightened it down with just the lugnut then we put the wheel on and tightened them down the rest of the way.

That wheel is evil every time we have to take it off a lug stud breaks even the new ones we put in and the drum brake holes for easily taking it off have also stripped on that wheel. So we try not to take it off.

The washers weren't really necessary because the threads of the stud came right to the edge of the hub but I figured it would be a nicer surface to turn the lug nut against instead of the hub when pulling the stud in place.

That seems scary and not worth it in my opinion. If the little bit of lug that has bitten starts to strip, you may be in big trouble. Getting that off probably requires a O/A torch, saw or bolt cutter. Again, this is just my opinion. It probably would work but if you're already there, you might as well finish the job.

Probably could get a cheaper one but they're rad. Built in bearing and taper. With a little lube on the splines of the stud, impact gun will suck the new stud in like butter.

I've done many this way, but I don't have a fancy c-press so I've pressed them out/in with a c-clamp and a big socket

I'm always scared to draw them in with a nut for fear of stretching the stud, but it works :becky:

Thats a good point, but it wasn't that bad because we had all the other lugnuts holding the rim against the hub, so the lugnut was able to grab atleast half to three quarters of the lugstud. We didn't have a problem pulling them in as we just tightened them till alot of resistance like in the video and didn't have problems, but if we did we have plenty of cutting tools to get it out. But I do see what your saying and tbh we didn't really think about that.

But it was just how we did it and I thought it might be helpful to share.
