Wheel question from newbie

I'm looking into getting 17 or 18 in wheels on my stock 99 4runner SR5 Sport..called a few places including Tire Discounter and they're saying the have nothing but problems w/ shaky ride rubbing..etc...the say something about hub-centric...everyone I've talked to says I should go w/ another toyota wheel...thoughts...advice...tricks?...Anything would be greatly appreciated
