WHEEL SPACERS? any one?

People have had good luck and bad luck with them. Others will never ever use them. I am one of those. I believe they are unsafe and you're putting unnecessary risk in wheel failure, and when the wheels fail, well, it's not going to be a good day for anyone.

My advice is to just get another set of wheels that has the proper offset to begin with.

BTW, what are you trying to do? Fit wider tires? Or just want the stockers to stick out more for "looks"?
 
I don't care for spacers either for reasons as mentioned above. However, others run them and swear by them.

Personally, if I was going to run a set, I'd go with the brand Spider Trax. I hear a lot of owners recommending these: Click Me
 
Just realize that your wheels are held on by the lugs and lug nuts. Spacers prevent the lug nuts to thread completely to spec. Less threads holding on the wheel means more chance of it coming off. Also, the wheels may not seat properly to the hub due to the spacers. Not always the case, but again, do you want to take this chance when you're on the freeway at 70MPH? Some love them, some don't. If it's just for looks, please do not do this. Just get another set of rims. If you're going for looks, you probably want an aftermarket set of rims anyway? Or try to find some 94-97 Land Cruiser/LX450 wheels.

p nut i just bought new tires so i cant get the wheels i want for now, and these spacers connects like a wheel and then the wheel connects to it the same way, the worst is if the lug nuts on the spacers are not well made.
I thought spacing would look better than a spacer lift what do u guys think?
i don't off road and wheel spacers will improve handling vs the lift.

I somewhat agree and somewhat disagree. I have the spidertrax spacers and have had absolutely no problems with them. The Spidertrax have their own lugs on the spacer itself which are designed to the same specs as the toyota lug nuts so you don't lose any threads, and the studs have the same integrity as stock.

While I can see the point that it is one more part possible of failing, I have NEVER heard of anyone with quality spacers (or even non-quality for that matter) having a wheel fall off due to spacers. If you feel safe driving around with your wheels properly torqued to factory spec then there is no reason a spacer, installed correctly, should make you any more uneasy.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind but the lugs are not any shorter with quality spacer.

edit: Also, the Spidertrax spacers are hub-centric, specifically designed for late model Toyotas, meaning they fit very snug over the center bore of the hub, and the wheel fits very snug over the center of the bore of the spacer. Again, from personal experience, Spidertrax are extremely well built spacers with safety and quality in mind. The spacer fits on the hub like a factory wheel would, and the wheel fits on the spacer just like it would on the hub making it essentially impossible (if installed correctly, which is not hard) for the wheel to be off center.

You will see about halfway down where the pics with wheel spacers start. Also, I have wheels with more backspacing than yours, so yours will probably stick out about .25" more if you got the 1.25" spacers. I wouldn't get anything above 1.5".

will a 1.5" cause rubbing on the inner fender?
And will it be ok if i installed lug centric instead of Hub Centric spacers?

1.5" shouldn't rub at all but I wouldn't buy anything that isn't hub centric.
 
Dude i just made a mistake and ordered two sets of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...t=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&item=230299030560 I'm not concerned about their quality as it stated on the auction "all of our products meet or exceed ISO9001 and QS9000 certifications of safety"
But i just realized that their "lug centric"
Is it worth returning them for this reason?
I really don't feel like paying the shipping and waiting for the refund and all of that :bash:

Front tires rub now, I tried to trim the inside of the fender and the running board a little but still i think i need a lift! :biggrin2:

After reading this thread, I called a couple of wheel and tire shops in my area and inquired about the spacers because I wanted to do the same thing for my 01T4R to even out my wheels with the flares. However, all of the shops i called suggested against any spacers greater than 1/4". In fact, none of them would even install the spacers had I provided the spacers.

They suggested like others on this thread, for me to just replace my wheels with the right offset to accomplish what i want. Obviously, some members here have had good luck and have not have any problems with their wheel spacers and others not so good luck.

I'm not trying to sway anyone one way or the other but I just thought I'd post what my local shops recommended.

BTW... you car looks great with the spacers.
