Wheel spacers safe?

I've done some research on the other gens and have read some mixed reviews. But is it safe to put spacers on your unlifted 5th gens? I plan on spacing out a set of trail wheels on my sr5, with the spidertrax wheel spacers. Also my tires are 275/70/17. Just wanted to know if it'll do more harm then good. Thanks.

New question. I just got my toytec ultimate installed with stock UCAs. I get some rubbing at full lock on 285s on trail wheels. Am I right that it would be better if I did get spacers?

I know this will come off as elitist, but harper7 (or 7harper, depending on the date) laid out a bunch of technical information on a tire/wheels thread and the search function will bring that up if you look for it. Reading that thread will both answer the questions you have now and the ones you didn't know to ask. I'm saying this because you are bound to get a lot of views and no answers because the topic has been covered in depth already.

I'm running spacers with 265/70R17 tires on my Trail Edition. I've had them on for almost 3,000 miles and taken my truck off road twice with them, and they are still holding strong. I just lifted my truck on Friday, so I went ahead and checked the lug nuts that hold the spacers on and they are all tight still. I did a lot of research as well on spacers and in the end it looks like it comes down to proper installation. I've also seen a few Overhaulin shows on TLC and they actually install similar wheel spacers to some of the cars they work on to properly offset Chip Foose's custom wheels.

If you are running 285/70R17's on stock Trail wheels with no spacers, then I'm guessing you are rubbing the frame at full lock or the upper control arm. Either way, installing Spidertrax wheel spacers will solve that problem. The only thing is that with the wheel pushed out some, your tires might start rubbing the front plastic bumper valence or the mud flap, both of which can be trimmed or modified to prevent rubbing.
