Wheel Spacers (SpiderTrax)?

Hey all, I've got a few elementary questions about wheel spacers, specifically SpiderTrax:

1. What does hub-centric mean vs. lug-centric?

2. Is it preferable to spacer all 4 wheels (for balance/appearance), or just the front (for tire clearance)?

3. Do they add any stress to vehicle components?


Looks like these things go for 100 bux a pair. Just wondering if I need 1 pair, or 2 in order to properly fit my 285s.

1) You're best bet here is to Google those terms. There is a lot of good info out there. Basically, though, hub-centric wheels use a raised lip on the hub to center the wheel, while lug-centric wheels use the lugs themselves to center the wheel. Site like TireRack might have diagrams that explain it in full detail.

2) It typically depends on the type of vehicle and what you're trying to do, and how much you care about looks. On the 4runner, I'd recommend all 4 wheels so it looks balanced.

3) Spacers shouldn't put any significant additional stress on the hubs that wheels with less backspacing would. So is there more stress? Yes. Is it worse than just getting aftermarket wheels with smaller backspacing? Probably not much, if at all.
