Wheel Spacers < than 1.25"?

Rear lugs measure 1 1/16 on the rear lugs. So 1.25 spacer is the minimum unless you have wheels with the recess between bolt holes.

I ran a 1 inch spacer for a while, and didn't have any issues with lug clearance on the spacers.

Kidding of course - DON'T ADD WASHERS TO YOUR WHEEL SPACERS KIDS.

However, depending on the number of threads showing once the spacers are installed and torqued to spec it might, MIGHT, be OK to grind a 1/16" off the end of the lugs.

FWIW - I don't like spacers. They're illegal in my state. Explicitly illegal, not some tortured reading of the law.

That said - I do have a set of custom 1" spacers. By that I mean everyone who makes spacers can make them 1" thick, they just don't stock them because they don't fit for most aftermarket wheels and selling them is a PITA. So you'll have to email or call someone to make a set. Often the'll actually have them in stock but not on the web page list of options. The reason for them was that with my street tires (275/60/20) on stock Limited 20" wheels, they hit my remote reservoirs. With those wheels I need a small spacer to clear. 1" seemed like the ideal fit to bring that wheel out just enough to clear without adding more than necessary. With the same spacer I get a tiny bit of rub on the fender liner near the firewall when I hit a hard bump at full lock (suspension flexes back) when I have my taller tires on. The 275/60/20's are 33.01 tall (taller than a 285/70/17) and my other set are 285 75 17 that measure 33.9 tall.

The 1" spacers would likely only work with OEM wheels or wheels with space for the studs. As was said, the rear studs are proud of the surface.

If I were doing it again - I'd have rear .875 and front 1" made. The track width in front is slightly narrower after a lift so the 1/4" total difference would even it out.

I also have a 1.25 set on my camper that adapts from SAE studs on the trailer axle to 12mm studs for using OEM toyota wheels. Never tried them on the 4runner. They're el-cheapo amazon spacers. But they've got a few thousand miles on them without issue on my little camper. Manufacturing quality looks as good as any. I don't have a lab to actually test the material to see if it's the aluminum type they claim, but it appears to be the case.

Finally - no you definitely do not need spacers for 285s on OEM trail, TRD Pro, or SR5 wheels. Spacers will make clearance worse in almost all cases.

unfortunately, I dont have any pics w/ 1.00 inch spacers on.

I've ran both 1 inch and then later on, 1.25 inch spacers on my trail wheels, they both fit fine.
 
I am running 1" BORA all the way around. I also have a 3/2 lift. I had been looking for this post for a while. That variance you mention between front track width and rear, that is with how much lift or is that stock? I have been wanting to see what my front track width is vs my rear. Last I measure (the crappiest of ways) it was hard to tell but when eyeing it from the corner it seems like the fronts are just a smidge in vs the back. Not sure 1/4 total gain from 0.125 on each side matters much though. I even contemplated running 1.25" fronts with my 1" rears.

I've had it set at a bunch of different heights. At 3" lift front I was around a full inch narrower up front. So you could run 1.5" front and 1" rear and have matching widths. At more like 2" lift I was closer to 0.5 ish narrower in front. That's just based on measuring center tread to center tread on some street tires that have a pretty consistent tread pattern. But it could be off a bit.

Ooph! My cab mounts would LOVE LOVE LOVE me with 1.5" on the front! :)
