4th gen spare tire question

I just purchased an 06 T4R Sport V8 4WD and want to mount 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers that came off of my 3rd gen on it, but read somewhere that if I ever needed to use the spare tire, I'd also need to take the wheel spacer off.

I just checked the spare tire and it looks just like the regular wheels that's on the vehicle but wasn't sure, can someone confirm real fast?

I can't answer specifically about the Sport but my Limited's spare has identical allow wheel.

On a side note, according to the date code your spare is 20 years old.

On my '04 Sport the 6-spoke wheels are all the same and can be swapped out without issue. Perhaps someone was referring to the 'donut' spare that some of the 4th gen came with.

I have never heard of a 4th gen with a donut spare, it would cause severe damage using one on a 4WD, the tires need to be close to the same size.

I didn't think so either but I came across a post in here or another forum that said they had one.

Thanks all, I'm pretty sure they're the same; good point about the full-time 4WD requiring same wheel for the spare.

I wouldn't have a donut spare anyway. I had to use one on a company car once and it was terrible, very difficult to stop and to handle the steering. I think they're dangerous.

My previous vehicle was a 3rd gen that came with a steel rim for the donut so I wasn't sure if 4th gens were the same or not. While researching online, it said the 4th gens do come with a regular size spare but it was steel and not alloy like the regular wheels were and that the steel spare somehow wouldn't work with the wheel spacers (studs ended up being too short or something) so one would have to take the spacer off... *shrug*

From the looks of it, my spare is exactly the same as the rest of the wheels so I'm, pretty sure it'll work. This weekend I'll put the wheel spacers on and will test fit the spare just to make sure. They came off of my 3rd gen. They were on the vehicle for over 40K miles and never had any issues with them.

Your spare looks like my spare and I have 5 of those. I swap out wheels when I get new tires, put the spare wheel on the ground with a new tire and the best of the old 4 tires goes on the spare rack.

AI says steel spares on the 4th gen SR5 and Sports models were common, although Limited models had 5 alloy. Mine came with 5 alloy and I am the original owner. I was able to order my own and it was delivered in September or October of 2003, so very early in the '04 model year. I don't remember if I specified 5 alloys, but if need be I would have.
