Wheel spacers? Yay or Nay?

I'm thinking of purchasing wheel spacers. Heard a lot of stories of wheel falling off and wobbling or vibration at 70-80 or higher. I'm thinking of getting Hub centric 1.5 inch or 2 inch spacer from eBay or get spidertrax spacers. I'm considering the eBay route since I can get four for around $130. Anyone have problems with their spacers? My 4Runner is a daily and I do few highway runs at 70MPH

This ^ - If you're going to do it use quality. I ran them but prefer not to and never had any issues.

I have 1.25 spacers and use it as my daily commuter on the freeway. no wobbling or vibrations. have also taken a long trip with them and they work great. I recommend the spidertrax. Can't comment on the ebay ones.

If you want to keep your stock wheels, Spidertrax is the way to go. Otherwise, aftermarket wheels will give you additional backspacing.

I would go with the latter b/c not having spacers is one less thing to worry about.

I have spidertrax and have no complaints other than the rubbing when backing up with my wheel turned. I know I could theoretically cut away some of the fender liner, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet and instead just cringe at the sound. No wobble or vibration of any kind, however.

I work in a metal/machine shop. Although I am not knocking on Spidertrax quality, metal is metal. It is being made in almost the same machine, Spidertrax can and will sell their products for more money because of the people above this post. They are a well-known brand that has been around for years. BUT when it comes down to spacers, to me it is the same. It is just a person manning the CNC Machine after they input the data, not the actual person doing the work. BUT I will have you make sure the quality of the metal they use is the same, ie. 6061-T6 Aluminum with Grade 8 or 10 Bolts, and of course making sure it is hub-centric. Yeah, I’ve heard people using spacers that aren’t Spidertax having them fail on them, but I believe it is the end-user fault for not installing it correctly. I’ve even heard Spidertrax failing as well, again end-users fault. Just torque down the spacers to the hub 85lbs, and 80lbs wheels to spacers, and recheck after 80-100 miles of driving. After that, you are golden, and make it a habit to check every oil change when you’re rotating your tires. Also, FYI, I am using the ebay spacers on now. No problems here.

Trust me, I solely believe in you get what you pay for, but when it comes to a somethings that a machine makes and not an actual person, I feel a little different. I am not saying all machine work is the same though.

Your wheels are your life. Stay away from the ebay spacers. The spidertrax are your best bet. I've heard of a few people having issues with the ebay ones. You just never know what you're really getting.

Had All-Pro spacers on my truck for at least 10K miles. No problems.

If they're manufactured well, and if they're INSTALLED PROPERLY you'll have no problems as well.

I have the 1.5 all pro on mine with the extended lug nuts..

one of the first things I bought though.. the stance on the stock 4runner is terrible.. looks awesome now .. little rubbing but a 30 minute fix, no issues at all few thousand miles.. those things aren't going any where.. they are loctited, torqued to 90 lbs..

could be a placebo effect but I also feel more planted on the road.. does it not lower your cars center of gravity spreading out the wheels? I assume the opposite is true..



*1.25 is good for the early 4runners 03-05.. the fenders don't stick out as much as the updated body style 06-09.. better to go 1.5 on the latter..

most of people using spacers fail to install it properly, causing the spacers to fail, which then they blame the company.

ive ran my 2" ebay spacers for 4 years without issue. Torqued properly, checked often. Youll be fine.

Wheel Spacers

We use 1" wheel spacers because without the tires rub on the upper arm. They are quality and have been installed properly so I haven't had any problems and we beat on our rig pretty hard. :cheer2:

I have spidertraxx installed for about 2K miles using my rig as DD and wheelin with no issue's. I believe the wheels should have been flush or 1-2 inch pass the frame is how 4runners should look. It makes it look more aggressive.

I agree with what everybody else is saying. If installed properly, you shouldn't have any issues.
Personally I am running Spydertrax with zero issues

If you go with the ebay ones like I did, you will want to change your front lug studs so they get more bite. There were a few brave souls that run them with the shorter stock studs, but that was not for me. After changing mine I've had them on for 200 or so miles with no issue.

I think sydertrax is a product of good marketing so people pay way more for a "known" product.

I have had them on my 07 for about 20k miles now and no issues. I drive about 40k a year and was not too concerned about the spacers or my daystar lift. I bought a used pair from a member here in the classifieds. (The way to go)

If they are the exact same metal and design then yes, brand doesn't matter. But what you're paying extra for with a name brand item is knowing that the type of metal and design of the part are proven. An ebay listing can say whatever type of metal they want, but most people have no way to ever check. For example there's a huge difference between plain 6061 aluminum and 6061-T6. And unless you carefully measure ebay parts vs name brand you don't know that the design is the same even if they look the same at first glance.
