Wheel/Tire Advice please

Have 2019 Nightshade with 20 inch wheels
In Canada moving from Ontario to Quebec so need set of winter tires
Local shop here in Quebec guy says I can go with a 17inch wheel and tire to go cheaper as it will fit
Sure a 17 inch will fit since its smaller but asked him about how it will affect the ride, fuel consumption etc and he says won't affect anything???
Will actually be a smoother ride not as hard he says.
Not sure if he meant it would be smoother because of type of tires in the 17 vs 20 inch scenario or if because it's smaller tires

So in the 20 inch scenario he had Blizzak tires and Cooper (Avalanche) tires in the 17 inch scenario.
I know of Blizzack but not Cooper and Blizzak (Bridgestone) would be fine.

So I am most concerned about going to a 17 inch and really need feedback on that and what I need to know making such a move. Is it good or bad or neither good or bad just different way to go.

And if you have any comments on tire type that's great too but not a must. Like who the heck is Cooper, are they good bad, new in the market etc.

your tire guy is spot on. you can have the same diameter tire for a 17 inch wheel.

There are exactly zero reasons other than looks to have a 20" tire on a 4R. Theoretically, on a sports car, you will get better cornering and handling with a bigger wheel and a shorter sidewall.

Of course, the taller sidewall will improve ride quality. Probably by quite a bit. I suppose 17" tires are also cheaper and there is certainly much more choice to be had.

As with all tire companies, Cooper has all sorts of tires. Mine are heavy duty desert tires and are great (made by Cooper who own the MT brand). It is a fairly major brand. All brands have some tires that are better than others. I have no idea about the specific Cooper tire you mention.

Did more research on Cooper after posting. They seem pretty good across the board with all brands.
