wheel/tire combo recommendations

i have a silver 07 limited, stock 18" wheels and crappy tires with 40k. im now wanting to upgrade to some more meaty tires. looking for recommendations. i dont do crazy off roading, i do drive on the beach and in snow here in NY.
Should i ditch the limited wheels and get something wider in black? or keep em and get BFG AT KO.
Note: i have a 2.5"/1" DS level kit, so whats a decent upgrade size of tires without going too crazy

yeah i hear great things about them, and they're beautiful looking!
I got stuck in my driveway with the sweet stock limited tires last night so i need some meaty treads!!!
just deciding whether to stick em on my 18" ltd wheels of upgrade to some other rims??
I also live in NY and really dont want my truck stolen for the rims/wheels...

trying to find a deal on 265/70/18 BFG AT KO's

you would probably be better off with 265 65 18 the others might scape and hit due to the squared off edges. i have the above size and the scape a little.

thanks for the tire size calendar! I just spoke to a tire guy at a chain tire store and he said that the BFG AT KO might be a bit much for what im looking for, as its a 10 ply tire, he said it would ride really rough.
Im upgrading for a more aggressive look, as well as some snow/sand handling upgrade

The tire guy recommended the BFG Rugged Trail TA
275/70/18 x's 4 @ $860

what do you guys think

So far I am loving my Goodyear SAs in the snow. Excellent braking response and great grip all around. Everybody has their preferences though...

RUgged trails are terrible tires. I would not recommend them. Search for tires there are many good ones out there.

Silent armies are great for snow and ice.

Thanks for the heads up guys! Im more than likely gunna pick between the BFG AT KO's or the GY silent armors.
My pops has the Silent Armors on his 99 Tacoma, he says their terribly stiff, but his taco has the bilstein TRD off road kit and you feel any bump anyway..
and im torn between the guy at tire place telling me the AT KO's are gunna be stiff as heck and they need to be run at 80 psi??

80 psi for the BFG's?? Never heard of anybody running that much in any tire discussed here. I've seen 44 psi for the LT duratracs. I would maybe think about finding a new tire guy, or maybe I'm wrong and need to research a bit more.

I've heard and read nothing but good things about the hankooks ATM RF10's. I think i'm about to go with those. I love the looks of the Duratracs, just not the price!!!

Yeah 80 psi on bfg's sounded strange, but i think the tire guy was really trying to push what he in stock!! lol

I was in a similar situation as you - wanted beefier tires, more aggressive, but nothing too hardcore as I only encounter the occasional dirt road and sand at the lake.

I went with the General Grabber AT2's. They are pretty much a knockoff of the BFG AT KO's but at a much lower price. I think I paid about $130 per tire at Tire Rack. I read a lot of positive reviews, they have a 60k mile warranty, and I have no complaints so far (only 8k miles on them). I went with the P-rated tire since I don't plan on bashing any rocks, and the ride quality is awesome. You don't feel the treads whatsoever.

Just another option for you to think about...

Is the stocker 7 or 7.5?

I have put 305's on a 7" rim before but it was a BULDGE. 285's were safe.

I think the stocker is 7.5, so 305's would be max. 305mm = 12".

There are alot of tires you can look at! You have the BFG TA KO, Nitto Terra Grappler, GY Silent Armor, Firestone Destination AT and MT, Hankook Dynapro AT and MT. I am looking between two tires if you want something that is between an AT and MT. Look at the Goodyear Duratrac and the Kelly Safari TSR. They are both made by Goodyear and the Kelly Safari looks very much like the Duratrac. I have heard great things about both and the Kelly Safari in a C load is $140.18 apiece. There are a couple of reviews if you google them but they are the ones I am going with. A friend of mine has them on his FJC and loves them. There are tons of AT tires to choose from but I want something a little more agressive than most AT's.
