Wheel/Tundra brake experts

I cant seem to find the combo of information that I need..

I want to do the 231mm Tundra Brake upgrade and Im running

Procomp Xtreme Alloy 7089's
16x8 with 4.5" backspacing

I know that the OE 5 spokes will work but the 6 wont and both of those are what 4 5/8 BS??

can I run 231 or do I have to settle with 199 for these wheels?

It's not the backspacing that determines whether or not the wheels will clear the calipers, it's the design of the spokes and the curvature of the surface of the spoke facing the caliper.

For instance, the factory 5 stars clear with decent room to spare, and they are 4.625" BS, but my ProComp 8069's clear by just a hair and they are 4" BS.

They only way to really know is to test fit, or to see if you can find someone else who's running the combo and can verify that everything will clear.

EDIT, Btw, I tried to look up a 4089 just to see what it looks like and I think you may have the model # of the wheels mixed up because it doesn't look like ProComp makes a 4089.

EDIT # 2... checked out your build... you're running 7089's

I just checked my list (in the 231 writeup) and I have it down that 7089's will clear the 231's in the 17" size.

Just from looking at the design of the spokes on that wheel (the way they radiate out in a straight line from the hub to the outer edge of the wheel), I'll bet the 16's would clear as well.

LOL, duh... 7089's! why did I put 4089? thats a typo.

I wish I knew for sure if these would work. I guess Ill just get the stuff for the 231mm and see.

Do the stock FJ80 LC wheels 16x8 clear the 231 13WL tundra calipers?
Do they fit without spacers and without any grinding of anything?

Selling my rims off my Tundra. They were on an 04 tundra. Should fit the Tacomas as well. They wont fit on any of the 05+ Tacomas. They are the Pro Comp 7089 16x8 6 x 5.5 with 4" BS. Just let me know if you are interested. $300 plus shipping. I don't have the caps for them though.

He's saying they hit the calipers on the 05+ Tacomas, but that he was running them on the 04 Tundra. If I'm reading that right, that doesn't mean they won't clear the 231's. In fact that 04 Tundra should have 231's on it. The 05+ Tacomas went to a new, larger caliper design, which is why I think he was running into issues there.

Take him up on this! When I was going to do the upgrade, 4Ripcord let me test my wheels on his truck before I bought all the parts. It's the best way to know for sure.

No, they do not. You will need at least a 1/4 spacer to run those wheels w/231's.

Had to put in your lift last year while I was in Moab right? LOL

my wheels are off my truck now, cuz my front diff is out and in pieces on my work bench. I could bring my C02 bottle and my air gun to make things quick. Or if you want to come down to Parker Ive got an air compressor here that will make quick work of things. Ive also got plenty of Beer, Rum and Vodka! :cheers:

Let's figure out a time. I'll have time tomorrow night our this weekend.
