Yes you can. i have a friend that has a 2wd truck. What we do is, I'll go in front and drive in 2wd and if i get stuck i tell him to go around.
just don't go alone, have some one there that can pull you out.

ya dude my runner is 2wd and i go wheeling and mudding with my friends all the time... if u get stuck then just get someone that can pull u out.

agreed!

Also might wanna buy a locker too! Makes a world of difference

Agreed. You would be surprised at how far you can get locked in 2wd. I leave my truck in 2wd most of the time running the beach down at PINS, and rarely have to put it in 4wd.

Very surprised actually, you won't really need the 4wd unless you get into some very bad situations. But for mostly trail riding and so have you a locked 2wd can go thru alot!

IMO, I would go so far as to say the level of traction locked in 2wd is similar to that of open / open 4wd. Of course, there are certain situations where there is no substitute for front wheels under power, but for most easier stuff....

Now 2wd without a locker... you will have to develop a fundamental understanding of the principal of momentum, and not be afraid to use the skinny pedal. :hatsoff:

ok so this is gonna sound like a noob question but wat does the locker do exactly on a 2wd? like ive heard many ppl say that itll help but im still a little fuzzy on how it actually works.

The locker performs exactly he same way in 2wd as it does in 4wd. Basically, it locks the right and left wheels into the same rotation. They will rotate at the same rate, no slipping. The elimination of slipping means pawer is not lost to the wheel that is slipping, hence, all the power goes to the wheel that gets traction and is pulling. All your power at the wheel that needs it.

ya muding in 2wd is more fun, bcs you can spin your tires more and fling more mud all over your buddys. :trophy:

i have 4wd for when i get stuck in the mud, but sometimes even 4wd isnt good enough:dammit:

miore important than 4wd is that you have some good tires. you can have 20 wheel drive, but if your tires are crappy, you will get stuck in a hurry.

Where do I buy one of these lockers for a 2wd? Sorry for the noob question.

You will have to find a rear axle with an e-locker, or put an after market locker in your axle (ARB, Lockright, Auburn, Aussie). If you put in an axle with a Toyota e-locker, you will have to do some wiring modifications to make it work (grey wire mod). As long as you don't have to drive it on slick roads or wintery roads, a locker like the Lockright or Aussie would be your best bet for a cheap upgrade. I personally prefer a more transparent modification, like the ARB or Auburn, due to the fact that when it is not activated, it functions as if it were not there.... but they are significantly more expensive.

so another noob question... im wondering how do u know for sure that u have a locker or not? im assuming its as simple as if u look in on the front dash and u have to have the diff locker button? I have on my rear axle something that looks like a cap that can be turned and was curious if that meant i had one or if it was just something that is supposed to be stock on any axle.

I believe that the cap you are referring to is your diff breather cap. It is on all Toyota 8 inch axles. If you do not have any button up front, it is safe to assume that you do not have a locker, and even if you did have a selectable locker, you would have no way to turn it on. If you had an auto locker, such as an Aussie or Lockright, you would hear some chirping noises and some ratcheting from the rear axle when going around turns. Toyota never put lockers into their 2wd trucks. Any locker in a 2wd truck would have been added later, and probably would have been advertised as a selling point by the previous owner.

ok well my parents bought this car brand new and i got it after they owned it for 2 years so i guess its safe to say that it doesnt have one and no i didnt mean the diff cap but its not important. thnx for the help...
