Is that Cumberland Gap area? I think that's what it's called "road off highway to come around the backside of Keystone, go by Abase"? If so, I nearly bought the farm on that road back in 91'. Came over the top in my 87 VW GTI, only to find that the brake job done on my car, had left out the spreader springs on the front pads... brakes went soft right after the peak, went down the road at pegged rpm's in 2nd gear, and pulled the e-brake in the gravel parking lot of A-base.

The trail is Deer Creek, Saints John trails. It is on top of Glacier Mountain. Highest point was 12,500 ft. I would have to say that it was not the same location you took your GTI. You would only take a 4X4 to get up there. Did your GTI have 4 motion!!!!!!!
