Wheels, Where Does One Buy GOOD Wheels?

So as you guys may or may not know I despise the giant flashy chrome rims and all the rivets and crap that so many "Truck/SUV" rims seem to have these days.

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for new rims to potentionally replace the stock Sport Edition Rims on my '04 4Runner. I love my Sport rims they look great and probably in gunmetal they'd be better, but they're 7" wide and I wanna run a 295 or 305 Toyo tire in the future which I would feel more comfortable on a 8-10" rim.

Seriously though... I've looked at dozens of websites like WheelsNext, TireRack, ect and all I find are these bloody gaudy as hell wheels that need a matching set of chrome grills for my teeth.

I want a nice simple rim similar to the sport rims (maybe 16-18") but in a wider selection than 7" in width, and for the love of god no useless fake rivets and gaudy chrome plating... is that so much to ask for!?

buy some Toyota wheels. not much better than factory. for ex., I have fj cruiser trail teams. just look at all the wheel options Toyota has, and if you want black you can always get them powdercoated.

Yeah there is one or two TRD wheels I like, but they are 7.5" which isn't that much wider than the stock 7" wide wheels. I just feel like I am wasting money if I buy an already expensive (mostly because its BLING! :barf wheel and then spend even more money to have it stripped and powder coated.

I wish I could just slice my stock wheels in half and add a few inches to the width! LOL

Wow... that is an interesting possibility. I just find it hard to believe their rims hold up so well after welding.

I was just thinking to myself, what is a reasonable width wheel for offroading? I would have though a wider wheel would be better for the tire to fit on, but now I am not so sure.

Thinking of running 285/295 Toyos in the future...

there limited run only, some guy on tacomaworld sells them. I would get the counter steer but they won't fit on my new brakes.

So I had a customer come in with an FJ Cruiser last week with some XD796 XD Series Revolver rims on his rig. Normally I wouldn't even bat an eye at XD, their rims are often either ridiculously giagantic or gaudy to all hell... but these rims were pretty cool looking and even better when you take the center cap off. (which is what caught my eye since he was running his spare uncovered.)

So my question is, who here are running 17-18" Revolvers? I'd like to actually see them on the vehicle before I add them to my list of possibilities. Also any comments, reviews, feedback on owning them?

I just did the same thing for my wife's 07 Camry. I ended up scoring some 2010 Camry SE wheels on ebay for 425+ shipping. It's a nice 5 spoke and works great. I liked some Lexus wheels but they were just too much. If you do buy Toyota wheels, get ready to pay $70 for lug nuts... I couldn't find anything that worked in any stores.

These are one of the few rims that look very good.

Rota's / Konig are kinda blah -> I'd rather use stock.

Here are rims that I use for my sports car but unsure if it would fit a SUV.

Ooh, those are nice... I bet they even have enough meat on the outer edge to tap bolt holes for a bead lock. What make were those?

Ya I'm pretty set on getting those for when the time comes. I'm going to wait until I put a lift and do it all at once. I saw a generic version of what they would look like on my rig via the wheel simulator on the discount tire web site and I think it was a great match IMO.

Those look good! Of course I may a little biased. :biggrin2: I really like them and just bought them due to their price. IMO, the outer lip is what made them look more aggressive. I'm currently running them blacked out.

I agree with you guys, I hate all the fancy, blingy rims most people run these days. Give me a solid and simple design wheel any day.

That's exactly what I was thinking. A black ring would be perfect on them. I love the look of street locks myself...or "rock rings" as Pro Comp calls them. Sure they are mostly for looks but who cares.

Those wheels look good though. I've never seen them before. Here they are wrapped in a set of TGs....very nice.
