When do 2012's come out?

Planning to buy a new 4runner. From what I could find, no special reason to wait for the 2012, but out of curiosity, when are they expected to come out?

The good news is you have lots of time to save your pennies and do your research. The new year model comes in to dealers around October but expect details to emerge a little earlier.

True but...

True on the refresh... but that could easily change...

Fuel prices rise, sales of SUVs go down, and Toyota has some more issues, it could easily (God Forbid) mean 4runners are put on the back burner, not changed, or cancelled. I certainly hope that never happens, but I've never found it a good idea to put off what you want and can afford today, for something that may happen in the future. The future has a nasty way of surprising you.

Save your money for now, Mid-generation refresh in 2013! Lots of upgraded and new stuff!

Don't be so sure about that refresh coming as soon as it did for the 4th Gens.

The current Tacomas (which almost mirror the 4Runner) came out 2 years after the 4Runner, but the new Tacoma is now being put off until 2013. Plus there weren't as many of these produced and you don't see 5th Gen's all over the place like there were 4th gens... so a refresh may not be needed as soon.

The 4th Gen 4Runner got it's refresh a year after the Tacoma came out, so my guess is that 2014 4Runners will get the refresh (released in Oct. 2013).

Will is correct, especially since Toyota typically runs their trucks 7 years on the same model, but also because buyers of 2010 models who leased for four years will be wanting something different when term expires in .... 2014.

ANY NEWS on 2012 4runners

ive owned a 1992 and 2003 4runner. I tried getting a 2011 limited with the rear entertainment system. I had no luck since april. I am now hoping I can just get a 2012 Limited. Any news on when they are coming to the NJ area? Any news on options etc? New options?

Not sure when they'll hit (expect sept or oct), but I believe the 4Runner will be getting the optional Entune stereo. This uses your smartphone data line for Pandora, movie tickets, and resturant search.

FYI, it appears that nothing will be changing on the '12 models other than getting the Entune radio option. I wonder if we'll be able to retrofit. Hmmm...

The first 2012s should be arriving mid-to-late-November, according to the dealer I visited today.

From what I've been able to gather, the main changes for 2012 are:

  • Display Audio with Entune (no JBL)
  • Auto-retracting running boards are optional on the Limited

Navigation + JBL on the Limited does not appear to have Entune.

Man that sucks. Hopefully I can find a new 11 Trail somewhere still. Only ones I've found were on CarMax.

Edmunds Insideline confirms:
"Now in its third year since the 2010 overhaul, the 4Runner only gets a few small changes for 2012.

Toyota upgraded the SR5 and Trail grade models with standard Sirius radio, Bluetooth and a USB port with iPod connectivity.

Limited models get Toyota's new Entune mobile technology interface as standard equipment with a JBL audio-navigation system an option. The Entune setup is optional on the SR5 and Trail models.

And last, and most certainly least, SR5 and Limited trim 4Runners will be available with power-retractable running boards."

The Trail already has Sirius, Bluetooth and USB port standard. So, no actual changes reported for it.
