When do i know i need new shocks?

I have 190,000 miles on my 4runner and its still running perfect. but it seems like i feel every bump on the road and i have to go over speed bumps at .1 mph or i feel like car will fall apart.

do i need to replace my shocks?

Yes and probably need other bushings as well.
Possibly sway bar end links front and rear, sway bar bushings, and possibly rack and pinion bushings.

It helps a lot, i really didnt notice how crappy it rode till i did the Front Struts, Rear Shocks and Sway bar links. I still need to get some bushings.

You know you need new shocks when you hit a bump on the highway at one exit and don't stop bouncing til the following exit.

At 150K when I got it, shocks did a whole lot. Amazing how improved the ride was.

Worn dampers will allow the car to bounce (as mentioned) and sway more than it should. It can be difficult to tell sometimes, but often bad dampers will result in uneven tire wear (cupping, usually).

190K is a very long life for a typical stock damper...so I'd say even if it feels "OK"...if you have the cash, change 'em.

Where is the best place to buy all the bushings needed? just buy toyota brand or aftermarket? mine has 210k on it and it feels like its crap, but also have a shiny new 2010 I am comparing it to, but the crack/bump/pothole absorbtion is just not there, the shudder and rattling around, eek. she needs a suspension tuneup. I put cheapo shocks on it last year, and it was tighter for awhile, but since have wasted them, thinking Bilsteins this time around. any input is welcome.

Can anyone recommend decent places (national retailer shops or somewhere in Phila/South Jersey) for the bushings, sway bar links, and coils? I put new shocks & struts on 10 months ago with dramatic improvement, but feel it could be better. I have 200K and only changed the shocks/struts.
