when do struts, shocks, springs, typically need to be replaced?

My '03 SR5 4X4 V8 has 81,300 miles on it and I plan on lifting it by spring 2012. I am undecided between the OME kit or the daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer kit. I figure if I am going to be needing a new suspension soon anyway I might as well go with the OME kit but if not the I'd go with then spacer kit. Can anyone tell me when they needed to replace their suspension (time or mileage)? My friends Camry needed new struts at 85,000 miles but my sister's '05 RAV4 still has original suspension at 130,500. Thanks.

All depends on how it's been driven, road conditions, etc. From personal experience, I would go with the OME setup. A few people have mentioned the rear OMEs being bouncy, a couple of folks use OME coils on the front and Toytec superflex coils on the rear. That seems to be a very good setup from the feed back I've read. I have bilstein 5100s front with OME coils and love them, still gotta do the rear though. I went the spacer route at first but wasn't long until I wanted more. It is a great time to do new shocks as well.

thanks for the reply. i was in an STS Tire earlier reparing a flat and i saw a sign that said car companies strongly recommend replacing shocks at 50,000. A little exaggerated if you ask me!
