When do these lights go on?

Kind of a dumb question...On the front, there are yellow bulbs next to the fog lights that go on when the switch is set to parking lights, headlights, and auto. But these lower rear lights stay off in these settings.

Thank you, interesting. That was one purpose I thought of, but wondered why they would incorporate them. Seems like later models they did not.

I assume you are referring to the "Red Lights" in the rear bumper. In USA Market 4Runners there are no light bulbs installed in these housings. In other countries that require it, there were bulbs installed and were used as "Rear Fog Lamps", to warn vehicles approaching from the rear of your presence.

Well, this vehicle came from Quebec, so I'll have to ask someone to look at them for me when I shift into reverse. I also checked if they come on with the fog lights, they do not.

Just to clarify,are you talking about the bumper lights or the clear lenses at the bottom of each taillight? I'm talking about the lenses at the taillights.

This rear marker "light" is a reflector only - it has no electrical power going to it.

Bumper reflectors into lights

Lots of people have added sockets with bulbs in this reflector. On the site are ways to do this, just search. That you tube makes removing the reflector very complicated, just reach from underneath with your hand and a 10mm deep socket and small ratchet and remove the one 10mm nut, the part will almost fall out. Bumper removal not necessary. Socket and bulbs are mentioned in the threads you will find. When I did my 2003 LTD I had with both brake and tail lights.
