When should I replace my timing belt on my 1994 4Runner?

About a month ago, I bought my very first 4runner with 74,967 miles on it. The owner stated that he 'belives' that he did the timing belt but he wasen't sure.

My question to the jury is when should I change the timing belt? I would also do the water pump and thermostat as well to get those out of the way too.

The service guy at the dealer said to do it at 90,000 miles but I dont think i'm going to wait that long.

What do you guys thing?

I've always been an every 60,000 miles timing belt changer, just to be on the safe side. But if the dealer is saying 90k is OK, then it probably is. If it makes you uncomfortable, change it and don't worry about it. Good luck.

you can pull away the top t-belt cover pretty easy and take a quick look at the belt if you are leary of it...it it isnt cracked or glazed its fine....the 3.0 isnt a zero clearance head so you wont damage the valvetrain if the belt breaks...i usually do the water pump while im in there as a rule..
