When to change Hoses

I have a 1998( 6yrs old) 4-Runner with 68, 000 miles on it. I have never changed the Radiator, bypass or heater hoses. They appear to be in good condition, but I am getting a bit worried that they may go at any time. How often do you or should I change hoses. Thank You.

I change them every 3-4 years. Usually it's every second change of antifreeze. It's one of those cases where I'd rather spend the money and time replacing them before it's needed -- don't want a family member to get stranded with a blown-out hose.

That's good planning. Just look inside and bend them around when you do a flush. If in doubt, change 'em. Also change the thermostat (take the thermostat out when flushing) when you flush, every two years. It takes a bit of time, but it sure beats walking.

AAA says that cooling systems are one of the top three reasons that cars stop running, or if run does the most follow on damage. It that light, hoses are cheap.

About every 5 years you should change all the belts and hoses,
don't forget the heater hoses and the bypass hoses.

Even the small water hoses can spring a leak(I know from experience).
