2007 limited with 4.7 V8 and full time 4x4. Hoping for light off road, but will see all the snow WI has to offer. At what point should I be looking at lockers?

I do several trails that are rated as difficult. I think they are more of a moderate rating than difficult but I don't do the rating.
Other than the center diff lock, I do not have lockers in front or rear diffs.
You are going to do light off roading so why do you feel you need lockers?
If it were me I would invest in a set of good winter tires for your area instead of a locker. Get a lot of off road experience and forget installing a locker until you start doing harder trails.
Off road experience and knowledge is better than having lockers and can take you further.

When you can afford the "good" ones. No, honestly your vehicle is quite capable of more than you think. Decent snow shoes and away you go.

4Runners are very capable vehicles. Learning the capabilities of the vehicles and how to drive for the terrain you are in is key.
I consider myself a novice in the off roading world and watch others to learn what I can.
Yesterday we were doing the trail work on Slaughterhouse Gulch. The area we were working was just a dirt road at that point. You could have driven a Camry there.
So here comes a nice Jeep Rubicon. He was in low range, you could tell by the deep groaning of the gears. This guy did not know the vehicle capabilities or how to drive off road.
I wanted to give him a sign but as it is said "you cant fix stupid"

I agree with everyone who already posted. I had lockers on my previous truck and don't really see any need for them now. There are a couple types of people that wheel their trucks off-road: the ones that learn how to drive in varying conditions and the ones that build their truck and don't know how to drive.

Just to add in here, you don't want lockers in the snow! They are terrible, makes you slide non-stop. I've lived in Northern Michigan all my life and we get some good snowfalls here. I've driven trucks with rear lockers and it sucks. With that said, last winter I drove my 4Runner through tons of snow, the only time I had to lock in the diff was when I needed to dig out of something and the system kicked in to take my throttle away. Other than that, drive like you normally would without it locked in. The ATRAC is amazing in it's ability to straighten you out, saved my ass on more than one occasion last winter!
It slides, but doesn't do donuts very well without a rear locker. 4wheel drive donuts are much bigger generally. lol

Welcome to the 4Runner world! I bought mine last November and even in last years terrible Wisconsin winter, the vehicle was phenomenal on the Bridgestone A/T's that I have so I don't think you need snow tires.
As far as lockers, like the other guys have said, that is really only necessary if you are getting into serious off-roading.

When I took mine on F&T I dragged both front and rear bumpers, I suspect you did too or are much more careful than I am AKmoney!
