When to replace lower ball joint?

I replaced the front shocks on my 2004 4runner, and noticed that on the bottom of the rubber boot for the lower ball joint, there was grease that was visible. The protective cover didnt look torn, it just sort of looks like it is raised up off the lower a-arm. Do I need to have it replaced, or is the boot not suppose to total "seal"? If I need to have it replaced, can you just replace the boot, or do you need to get the whole ball joint? I am bringing it into the shop (a local place that does GREAT work for a REASONABLE price) on monday and just want to tell them what I need.

Thanks!

Yes, the boot is suppose to seal, it keeps the grease in and everything else out. As far as the boot it may be able to be replaced, on this app. I have no idea. I do know of a few that can be. I'd just replace it and call it a day.

I'm sure a few dealers will tell you the part cannot be ordered, however, it can.

Part number for the LCA replacement boot: 43345-69025, list $27.21.
