I heard TRD isn't doing anything to modify their current catback system for the 05/06 Sport Editions. That leaves only a couple other options, like the Magnaflow system or a custom made system, which would be cheaper, but probably not as high quality (mandrel bends, quality of tubing, etc). Another option is the new Borla dual exit system (PN# 140146). On Borla's website, the new system retails for over $1000, but I found you can also get it through Toyota in the Southeast Region for $779 retail/$679 wholesale as a dealer option (DE1). I live in California, so I'm actually having mine shipped from Florida (Courtesy Toyota in Tampa). Price is $679 plus shipping. You can see the same catback system on X6RUNNER's post:

The MagnaFlow is mandrel bent, high quality thick 304 stainless, with stainless strap clamps, solid polished stainless tips welded on, with a lifetime warranty. And it sounds SWEET! Can't beat the price, under $400.

Plus, in my opinion, it looks better than the TRD. I don't really agree w/ the fake-dual rear 3/4 exits that look like something off of a 95 ford F-250 w/ a gunrack in the rear window. Would look way better if they came straight out the back, but obviously, thats not possible w/ the spare location.

Koz, Magnaflow is definitely a nice setup and looks great on your 4Runner. When I commented about the lesser quality option, I guess I shouldn't have bundled it into the same sentence as the magnaflow since I was only referring to the custom made system done at an exhaust shop.

T4runner06, I'm very glad that you got the Borla at wholesale price. Great choice! I've seen and heard the sound of all three exhaust systems. The Borla has the best looking angle of the exit exhaust tips. TRD has almost the same exit angle, and the sound is much quieter than the Borla @ idle. Magnaflow sound really nice at hight RPM, but I don't like the way it looks. It's just my opinion. Hey! Don't forget your stock exhaust for my neighbor. I hate to hear his MACHINE GUN 4RUNNER every evening when he's passing by my house.

Honestly all the top systems are high quality and sound good. For my application (05 Limited with XREAS and rear air) I was very limited on systems. Actually the Magnaflow and Gibson were the only ones that didn't need to be modified. I thought systems that exit on both sides look the best, but I'm not crazy about the angle of the TRD and Borla. Again the dual one sided exit systems were an easy install for my application and the MagnaFlow was priced GREAT, I paid $381 to my door. After living with it I have grown to love the dual one side exit and sound allot more. All four systems (Borla, TRD, MagnaFlow, Gibson-stainless) are pretty much equal in quality so pick the one that appeals to your eye and pocket. The only system I didn't like is the JAOS, which exits like the stock system and is too quiet and way too expensive.

I could give two shits about the system bothering anyone else, I bought the system for me and none of these systems are that annoying.

Hi Koz, I just got the Magnaflow and the price has gone up to $393 shipped. I installed it this weekend and it seems loud. At the high end of the RPM its ok, but driving normally just before each shift I get a loud resonance that is really bad. Is something wrong or is this the same that your experiencing.

Mine is loudest (deep tone) when accelerating slowly/moderately, it gets quieter as the RPMs rise. At WOT it gets raspy. At highway speeds it has a low purr.

You may what to loosen the clamps and re-adjust the whole system so it hangs freely with all the rubber hangers properly located/centered and then re-tighten the clamps.
