my 04 was built in Tahara, Japan
And I have heard the plant or factory has a good reputation and is considered one of the best in the world.

---------------

The Highlander and the Sequioa are built in the U.S. and the 4Runner and Land Cruiser are built in Japan.

where the vehicle was manufactured
I believe you have to compare your VIN to a list. It says in the VIN somewhere, i.e. if digits 4, 5, and 6 are this number, then it was built in this plant. but i don't remember exactly what digits, and plant corresponds to those digits. run a search, you should be able to find a thread regarding it..

Found this bit of information on the lexus site

Someone posted the following:

The LS, GS, and GX are made at the Tahara plant. The ES are made at Tsutsumi, Kyushu. The IS is made at Kanji (Iwate Plant) and the SC is at Kanji (Kanto Jidosha). LX is made at Araco and finally the RX is made at Kyushu, and at the new plant they opened at Cambridge, Ontario. I got that infrormation from Lexus.com under there corporate information.

I get a kick out of the latest GM commerical, they are playing up that 3 of their plants got the Gold,Silver, and Bronze Quality awards for automotive manufacturing plants in "North America" and that is suppose to be a great thing that they took 1st,2nd and 3rd place. The only thing they are not telling the public is that the Tahara plant where our 4runner is built was awarded the Platnimum award for quality "World wide" and it continues to be the top rated automotive production plant in the world. It is also the most automated auto plant in the world. I guess it makes sense that if you eliminate the human beings from the process you will get more quality.

I found a website a year or 2 ago that allowed you to enter the chassis number of your Toyota, and it told you what day it was made, which factory, and who installed screw #4592B in the frame, but I cant find it now...

Has anyone else come across this and have the URL marked?
