Where can I buy a CB radio in SoCal?

I've checked the local electrical stores (Best Buy, Fry's, Radio Shack) and they don't have the Cobra 75 WX ST (or for that matter anything of much use!).

I want to be able to talk to someone about the equipment, eg antenna, external speakers etc so I don't want to order over the 'net.

Any leads for around Agoura, Calabasas etc?

You can buy a variety of CB radios at a major truckstop such as Pilot, Flying J, or TA. There is a Pilot and Flying J at the bottom of the grapevine (I-5 northbound side) and two TA's in Ontario, CA where I-10 and I-15 meet. There are also 2-3 CB radio shops less than a mile from the TA truckstops in Ontario. Almost any trucker and/or truckstop personnel can direct you to the CB radio shops. The shops also sell CB radios and accessories. There you could buy your radio, antenna, mount, coax, grounding instructions, get your new CB peaked and tuned (properly adjusted) all in one setting. If I were you, I'd take the CB shop route. I hope this information answers your questions and good luck.

I use CB Radio Shop in Fontana, Calif. They know their stuff. I bought my radio at a TA truck stop, but went to them to have it tuned up and installed. They did not mind, but I wish I had purchased it from them. The service is worth the extra price.

I purchased a Corbra CB at Amazon 3 months ago. I do not know the model but it is capable of converting from car to handheld with very little effort.

When I tried it in the car I was getting little voice traffic. Hopefully it is either the antenna (cheap old one I had) or that there was little voice traffic out there.

Regardless Amazon carries CBs (they carry almost everything).

There is a shop called AB Mobile in Torrance California. Their website is AB MOBILE COM is a Communication Company

Hours are Mon-Fri from 10am to 6pm. They service and sell CB radios, sell cell phones, this place is a museum of old radios and telephones, and ancient computer hardware. **DO NOT ASK THE OWNER TO MODIFY YOUR GALAXY DX-959 RADIO FOR HAM BAND USE BECAUSE THIS IS ILLEGAL!!**.

I've never been to see Captain Kirk myself but several of my friends have had their RV's and or 4wheelers tuned by him. I hear he really knows his stuff. I have seen some of his installs and I am not as impressed. In their defense they'd have to charge Thousands to install things the way I like.

So if you're anal, buy their stuff, install it yourself and take it back for a tune if you don't have the SWR. :spy:

I took a simple approach. Bought the Cobra WX from Amazon, already had a magnetic mount antenna and bought a $10 SWR meter (Amazon) to tune the antenna. I mounted the small box under the seat and picked up power from the power seat cable. I used an audio cable to the Aux input and use the Toyota radio for a speaker The mike sets in the drink holder or under the seat.
