Where do I really want to go for a Cheesesteak in Philly?

I am going the middle of October to visit family in the Northeast. I am going to have about 3 or 4 hours to play around in Philadelphia before getting on the train to Connecticut. Being a Philly cheesesteak lover I want to have the real deal. Where do I truly want to go experience a Philadelphia cheesesteak? Pats ? Genos? Someplace less famous but just as good if not better that’s a local secret? This will be my first time to ever visit Philadelphia so I need to make it count

Going to Geno's is good because Pat's is right across the street. Go with a friend (or a big appetite) and get one from each. Then split them and compare.

On a drive to New York, I stopped in Philly, for the same reason. There was no way that I was going to drive so close to Philly and not have a cheesesteak! I did the same thing, picked one up at Geno's and Pat's.
They were both pretty good, but to be honest, I was not blown away. I think that I had overhyped it in my mind.

Since then, every single person that I know that is from Philly or spent any time there, all told me the same thing. "You should have gone to Tony Luke's".

Now I am wanting to get back to try the Roast Pork at DiNic's, which is supposed to be the best sandwich in America. Looks pretty damn good!

I used to visit this place when my previous part-time job required driving to Philly http://www.delrossischeesesteaks.com I liked it better than Tony Lukes

OP if your family decides to take you to the shore areas of NJ, go to Steaks Unlimited in Seaside Heights (the one directly across the street from Beachcomber,not the small shack one at the opposite corner) and get a cheesesteak with a side of cheese balls, or better yet a Seaside Tony which is their cheesesteak with the cheeseballs in it.
