Since airlines have jacked up their prices so much lately it would finally be worth it to drive there (to my dad). So he called me and said look it up and see how much it would be with gas and a rental car. I was like come again. A rental car? I do see his point that if something were to happen it wouldn't be our responsibility. But still, on top of that he wants a minivan, I was like HA, thats funny. Besides they are all Ford Explorers and Freestars. They have just as much, if not more of a chance of breaking down that our 4Runner. Hell I'm taking my 4Runner ('95 w/ 3.slo) on 6k mile roadtrip. I have confidence in it, but OTOH, I know something could still fail.
Plus he's like when we sell it those miles are just going to hurt us in the end. Odd, because he and my mom promised me the w4th gen when I graduate college (5 years, 150k by then) And I will sure as hell go on long trips with that, why? Because it is always serviced right and babied, oh and because it's a Toyota.
But a 4th gen, with 66k? I know the 4.0 is a new engine, but still, many people have gone cross country, even trailering and NOTHING happened. To me, if I buy a car, it is made to be driven, and therefore should be taken on trips, I would be so pissed if we rented something.
What could possibly fail on the 4th gen? I keep everything in tip-top shape, use synthetic, and it is even still stock. I would take that 4Runner on a 20k roadtrip in a heartbeat. I just don't get it.
Just the other day, one of my friends needed an excuse why he was late, so one of the girls was like tell them Phil's car broke down. He said, no, Phils car doesn't break down. (FTR, she has a Taurus, and he has a Ford & Chevy)
Anyways, where has his confidence gone to? I think it actually got pretty much killed when we used to have American cars. Every trip we went on with them something major went wrong. Like the one Dodge needed its transmission rebuilt after a trip to Florida. 3 times, before we finally sold it.
