Where is the best place to sell my 3rd Gen?

Good evening,

After ordering from the factory in 1999, it is finally time to sell my 2000 Limited 4WD. One owner, garage kept, 135,000 miles, excellent condition for a Midwestern 3rd gen of its age. Does anybody have any idea what the best place to sell one and a price range would be? Ebay and AutoTrader seem to be decent bets and I put it on AutoTrader tonight but I don't know what to ask for it. I attached a couple of pics. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - I needed a larger vehicle, more seats for the kids and more power for towing a boat so I went with a Lexus GX460. I will definitely miss the 4Runner though, if I had more garage spaces I would keep it.

At $7,500 I bet you'd sell that in a day depending on how well you kept up with maintenance and how well it has been documented.

If you have a top notch maintenance history to go along with it, I'd start closer to 9K. It's hard to find stock, rust free, one owner, low mileage examples.

List it on here in the forum classifieds, and craigslist to start. You shouldn't need to resort to a fee-for-service site like autotrader or ebay to sell that thing.

If you're brave enough Facebook marketplace. You get a lot of idiots on there. Just play there games and you'll be good. That's where I've sold my last two 3rd gens and I got above KBB and full asking price.

Craigslist is usually my go-to. I've sold a few things on facebook marketplace but as mentioned above, LOTS of idiots on there and likely not worth your time.. In my area that's at least a $7,500 truck, perhaps a little more. Good luck.

I agree with whyzee on his craigslist remarks. Inevitably, you will have to sift through a lot of time-wasters and scammers, but you are just looking for that one buyer who cuts you a check for your price.

If you do go through the Craigslist route, list it in the other cities as well, including Denver.

See if a major city near you has a used auto fair. The last 4Runner I sold I put at a lot managed by a local college every weekend where it had exposure to 100's of people who could see the car, look at the interior/exterior and have the engine running without me being there or wasting time with texts/phone calls. If they wanted to test drive it I needed to be on site.

I sold a 2WD in 2 days. Very painless and only cost $50 to have it there for 3 weekends and if it didn't sell I would get a refund. Too bad the kid I sold it to wrecked it within a month, it was a pretty 4Runner.

Start high and work low. If you want to get $7,500 for it, list it for $8,500 since people will low-ball you no matter what price you list it at. People want to feel like they got a bargain so if you knock $500 off the price because you "think they are great and will take care of it" it will sell faster.

You could try the Nextdoor app, depending on your neighborhood. Get the least amount of time wasters compared to craigslist and stuff.

I agree, the lower mileage examples are rare. Find several listings in your area and base your asking price off those.

Yes it has a locker with the gray wire / blue wire mod. Thanks all for the tips, I wish I had space for it and I would keep indefinitely. It has been incredibly reliable, as you would expect of a Toyota and I'm sorry to see it go.

Thanks, I will look around for a venue like that. I am in Columbus, OH so a pretty good population. Cars & coffee will be starting up pretty soon also.

If the rest of the truck is as clean as the under carriage I'd start close to $10k since it's super low miles, has the rear locker, and the under carriage looks immaculate for being an Ohio truck.

I'd put it for sale on the forum, more likely that it goes to someone who will continue to take care of it just like you did. Craigslist is another option, but I'd expect a lot of "will u take 4500 i get payed friday thx." At least that's what I deal with whenever I post on craigslist it seems...
