I'm trying to program new remote and have to find the ECU.Anybody know the location??
The Main ECU is located on the passenger side behind the dashboard, under the airbag.
The Body ECU is located on the Drivers side. The fuze panel is where the Body ECU is.
im looking for the ecm for my 2000 toyota 4runner sr5 sport edition 3.4l v6
is the main ECU for a 07 4runner also behind the glove box?
is the black square in upper left of pic for the 4wd? and the main engine ecu over on the right somewhere?
There are ECUs all over the truck. The most important ECU is the ECM (Engine Control Module) and that is behind the glove box. The remote function on factory ('99+only) remotes is split between the Back Door ECU in the liftgate (where the antenna/receiver is) and the Body ECU by driver's knee that controls the doors. Add-on systems with alarms have boxes under the driver's seat or elsewhere. All wireless door systems prior to '99 are add-ons.
I don't mean to be picky, but it avoids confusion if we stick to the correct language. This is spelled out in the Abbreviations chapter of the FSM.
On a '96, you have an add-on system so the trucks ECM has nothing to do with remotes and neither does the Body ECU. Look for a box under the driver's seat, but since it was port or dealer installed they had a choice of where to put it.
I have a 97 limited. Can you help me locate my 4WD ECU?
