I just bought a 05 4Runner Sport and can't seem to locate the transmission dip stick. Where do you check the fluid level and fluid quality (red vs. brown) color?

It's sealed by the manufacturer as their thinking you will bring it back to the stealership for service at 75k-100k miles. All of the mfgrs will began to do this soon as it means a sure profit for their service centers. They will get you to bring your vehicle in for this sealed tranny service and then juke and jive you into several other so called needed services.
Hell, I wouldn't put it pass all of these greedy mfgrs to put a seal or some sort of electronic monitor on your oil cap. You would have to bring it to the dealer just to have your 5k oil changes. Any broken seal or attempted electronic tampering would violate your mfgr's warranty thus leaving you out in the cold when your engine breaks. This is guaranteed income for a dealer's maintenance department and an inconvenience for DIY'ers like you and I.

Yeah, have you seen the procedure for checking the fluid? Its crazy! I'm glad I have a good buddy whos a great mechanic, I wouldn't trust the stealer guy to do that procedure correctly, jeesh!:bash:

Not sure if you guys know this, but most of the newer BMWs and Mercedes have a computer that contacts the dealer for maintenance issues, when it is time for scheduled services the car contacts the dealer and you get a phone call from the dealer.
This happened to my uncle, who owns a mercedes, and he thinks its funny to get a call out of the blue from the dealer wanting to know when he can come in for an oil change.
My Uncle also had a flat tire in his driveway, the car contacted the dealer automatically and the dealer called him wanting to know if he needed a tow truck, he asked the dealer why and they told him he had a flat tire, he asked where his car was and they told him where his car was, hmmmm, there must be GPS locater in there too... smart car?
