The chip shortage is expected to last well into 2022 and possibly into 2023. Unfortunately right now the bubble is made out of kevlar and behind bulletproof glass. I would do what everyone before me stated and just put yourself on a waiting list at a dealership. You could wait it out for the bubble to burst but by that point we might have flying cars

Considered new, then found a 2019 TRD Offroad for $15k less than new with 8k miles, zero wear and tear (seriously, it looked, felt, smelled brand new) and several years left on the factory warranty.
It has everything we wanted and nothing we don’t. No push to start, no heated anything (So-cal), no sunroof, no radar traffic avoidance, etc.
We used Carmax, but were very close to using Carvana, too. We did a 24hr test drive with Carmax and were sold in about 30mins…lol.
Just food for thought.

What's up, folks. I came into an unexpected few thousand dollars and want to upgrade from my 2008 4Runner to a new one. Buying used would save me next to nothing right now since prices are unsustainably high and any loan would be upside down once the bubble bursts. I'm in Michigan and can't find anything but 2019's that they are asking $50k for. So is anyone finding 4Runners at dealers anywhere? Every dealer I found has plenty on their website and almost none on their lots. If you call, they just lie to get you to come in only to find the one your looking at is "in transit".
Just wondering if maybe the 2022 models are about to hit and there just aren't any 21's out there or if I'm just getting lied to by salesman who don't want me to buy elsewhere so they lie about "in transit" inventory.
Partially venting here but partially a legit question: Where the hell can I find one??
Inventory shortage hitting everywhere. Here in CA they are tough to find. Expect them to be higher in prices as some dealerships are adding an inventory finder's fee!

I was lucky and did find a 21 TRD OR on the lot. The Toyota dealer near me has a policy of not marking up prices over MSRP. WHen I was signing the papers, there was a couple of people sitting in the showroom waiting to see if I was going to make the purchase. They wanted to be there if I passed on the deal, they wanted it. They didn't get it lol. The 4Runner just rolled off the delivery truck an hour earlier and the OG buyer backed out. Salesman called me to let me know, I drove down and bought it. Still had the protective wrapping on it. lol

Congrats! Post some pics when you get a chance.
We are waiting it out. Fortunately, most of our driving occur in the summer and fall (to the mountains each weekend) and we have no work commute so there is no pressure to buy a new vehicle. Ideally, I'd love a hybrid Sequoia if they build one, but I could splurge on the Lexus version of the Land Cruiser. This gives me time to figure it out...fuel economy, towing wheelbase/power, seating, safety features, off-road capability, etc. I suggest waiting it out if possible.

Here in MD they are hard to come by. I got lucky and picked up our SR5 premium with TRD wheels/skid plate, blacked out emblems...and got it for under MSRP to top it all off...there were used ones on the lot for more than I paid for the new one. Insane times.

I was beyond lucky finding a 2022 that gets delivered in two weeks, someone couldn't pass their credit and a TRD off road came up for grabs because the guy couldn't pass for credit. I wasn't even in the market for a new car since a used 4Runner was in my mind but with used resale prices, it just made more sense to go new.
I couldn't say no and with the trade in @34k with my Focus RS, it was time to say goodbye to the go kart.

+1 for checking allocations. That's how I found my ORP that's coming in. Just find a good sales rep who will update you the moment those allocations hit and grab one up.

Think its going to be a very slim market for 4Runners until June 2022. Toyota Stockpiled all hard to get parts fully supporting the new Tundra Roll out. Tundra San Antonio plant is operating at 100% capacity. Japan where the T4R's are made is temporarily closing plants due to supply shortages and Covid.
At the dealer last week to pick up wiper blade inserts. Not a single T4R in the lot. Sales manager pulled me aside and wanted to buy my 17 T4R TRD Pro. Five years old at 54K. In writing offer at just south of $40K. I checked several others in the area and same thing.....lots empty.
