This past fall I made the jump and purchased a 1990 4runner for $1500. It had not been driven much in the last 4 or 5 years except as a hunting truck and a "don't wanna mess up my real car" truck. The odometer stopped working around 169k miles and the speedometer doesn't work. The truck runs great however I know that there has been ZERO maintenance in the past probably ten years save the initial oil change and fluid check I did upon purchasing.
I have a vision of this truck carrying my 2 boys my wife and me to the mountains for camping, towing the jon boat for fishing and getting to those hard to reach places for hunting. I picked the toyota because of the reputation of dependability and the thought that if i could get this truck to a level of performance it theoretically could last along time with the proper maintenance. (I own a prius and will only buy toyotas again!)
What I want to know is the order in which I should address the refurbish and any signs or events that signal a lost cause. The trucks starts up, runs, stops, restarts etc. The 4 wheel drive works. The things that i notice are that it leaks, oil and most recently coolant too. I can tell that the front end needs to be replaced; rods, cvs, brakes, the whole gambit. Any help is greatly appreciated..
Thanks
