Hey everyone.

About to do my first oil change on my 03 4 runner going with oem filter and mobil 1 synthetic 5w30. Oil is easy to get but the filter is my question. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada and is the stealership my only option to pick the filter up? Any help would be great.

Why do you want Toyota OEM? I've heard in general if you use synthetic oil you should use a filter with a synthetic filter media like M1, K&N, PureOne and Bosch. I am not sure if the TRD oil filter is synthetic but they are pretty much only available at dealerships or the net.

I've been using the M1 EP and the M1 filter. If I could get the OE oil filters cheaper AND if I knew they could handle my 8,000 + miles between oil changes I'd use them but until then I'll continue to use the M1 filter.

Of course, you could always order the Amsoil Ea filter but even with my Preferred Customer discount it's still pricey. Amsoil oil and filter in my Stang FTW.

Do not go with the Amsoil filters, in fact you may not find one.

i like to use mobil 1 or royal purple oil filters with they're syn. oil

Thanks, Paul. I had known about the TSB when it first came out and had forgotten about it (don't grow old). I was only contemplating the Amsoil filter for it's ability to filteradequately beyond 10,000 miles as opposed to other filters but since I presently change the oil and filter in the T4R due to towing and won't go beyond 10,000 miles I'll be sticking with the M1 filter.

I use Amsoil oil and filters in my '07 Stang GT and there are no reports of issues from other users on the various Mustang forums.
