Where to get a turn signal switch?

The turn signal BUZZES when you put the left turn signals on. The right doesn't do it. Talked with a toyota mechanic friend of mine and he said the multi-function switch needs to be replaced. The contacts have worn out for the left signal.
I found rockauto had ones on ebay for '95-99 but couldn't find any for a 1990. Any leads on where to get them would be appreciated.

PS I know the dealership would ahve them but last time I checked (a few years ago) they wanted ALOT of money for one. The rock auto ones were ~$90.

Start checking the For Sale forums of Toyota BBSs like this, and try posting in the Wanted too.

People are always parting out trucks. Any 3rd gen truck/2nd gen Runner will work, 2WD or 4WD.

Have you even checked out the local salvage yards

Notice I said 3rd gen truck and 2nd gen Runner, there's a difference. But the crossover of parts may go farther.

Got a used one off another runner someone local was parting out. Can't believe it was so easy to fix. I dealt with that dang buzzing for 7 years!
I replaced the whole multi-function switch at once.

Are you taking bids/wants yet? Columbus is only an hour away, and I'd be happy to come take some parts off your hands. Let me know when you're parting stuff out; I'm looking to get a rear axle from a V6 pickup/4runner, front seats, and probably a couple other things.

I've checked like half a dozen junk yards and all of them say something like "we don't sell parts," "we don't sell foreign parts," or "we don't have that."

If you wouldn't mind PMing me when you decide to part out your runner, I'd appreciate it.

I am taking the engine, transmission, transfer case, front and rear axles and a few small minor parts. All the glass is good and all the interior is in great shape for a 91. It is blue cloth and I have no use for it so feel free to email me a [email protected]. You can help yourself to the interior and anything else that I do not need.

Turn signal buzzing (3rd gen limited)

I got a 3rd Gen T4R Limited with 220K on it. I was getting a buzzing sound when I would turn the turn signal on, I could turn it on halfway and not get a buzzing so I assumed it was a connection in the switch.

To fix this you need to take off the panel under the steering wheel (4X10mm bolts). You can just drop this down without unplugging anything just move it down enough to get at the plastic shroud around the steering column. The plastic shroud is held on by one screw on the underside and two screws on the front. The screws on the front can be accessed by cranking the wheel all the way one way then all the way the other.

Once you have the plastic shroud off you can see the turn signal switch, first unplug it from the bottom, then remove the two screws that hold it onto the steering column. You can now pull the entire switch out.

Once the switch is out you can see a clear cover on one side, this can be popped off and is not held on by any screws. Once it is off you can see there are two screws that need to come off, you can then lift the side with the screws off and the other side will unclip.

With this off you can see how the switch operates with the small metal piece sliding between the three connection points. If yours is like mine it is all full of black grease and the connection points are corroded. I wiped it down very well and even sanded the slider piece with some high grit sand paper. Sanding the slider piece is finally what did it, I tried just wiping the grease but that did not solve it. Now just hook it all back up and you should be set! Don't forget to just install the switch and test before you put it all back together

I have a 2000 4runner, and when I turned the turn signal handle to the left, I would hear a buzzing, and neither the left turn lights nor the dashboard left turn lights would not turn on. If the handle was only partly depressed, then the lights would function as normal.

I followed Mikesudyk's post, and my turn signal switch seems to have been brought back to life! However, I experienced a lot of take off the column that surrounds the steering wheel. Most of the top and bottom column around the wheel pop off, but the part closest to the wheel is difficult to reach. I found that by rotating the wheel 90 degrees to either direction (which exposes the screw-hole) and inserting a screwdriver and pushing upwards, I could more easily separate the tabs holding the two columns together.



I unnecessarily scored the plastic around the wheel, but its fixed. The only thing I regret is wiping all the grease off and not applying new grease after sanding down the contacts.
