I want to put the 2 side decals on my runner...but I want the black/charcoal ones instead of the black/red ones, is there a way to get OEM ones, or should I just order some vinyl reproductions?

No way. The decals that are aftermarket are one solid piece and the install was very easy as I just used Windex and sprayed down the panel and then placed the sticker on the panel and moved it around till it was in perfect position and then you push out as many of the air bubbles as possible and then let dry. There will be remaining bubbles that will disappear as the sticker dries.

With the chemicals in windex, your decal will most likely last about half as long as it normally would. I bet the ammonia eats away at the adhesive.

Ammonia (sp) can, but you can also get window cleaner for tinted windows and use that which doesn't have any. That's what I use. The key is to make sure you use enough of it otherwise the sticker will just stick and not move.

Three years on mine and they aren't even pulling up on the edges and mine does see plenty of bad weather, car washes and plenty of crap off road.

You can use dish soapy water too but the guy recommended window cleaner and said neither really matters. I am surprised they still are 100% fine as the day i put 'em.

I'm getting to replace mine with a set of charcoal/red Sport versions since I'm kinda bored with just the charcoal/silver but I am curious what it will take before these started looking shoddy.

I laid it across the gas door while it was wet, positioned it carefully and then cut it with a very sharp razor blade and then folded the the edges back around the door. You don't want to cut the sticker then place the edges right at the edge of the gas door or you'll get a longer sticker than the other side, you want continuity like the sticker is still bridging the gap.

I'll take some close up pics tomorrow and post 'em.

if dealer purchased, do you think they will install? i'm kinda scared of the whole gas door thing and having the sides even and end up having some big off center sticker on my car.

and what is your opinions of putting TRD decals on just for looks? i'd like to put them on mine but since its 2WD and i dont really have any TRD parts i don't wanna get called a "noob" or have a "ricer" look just because i like the decals

ron and rock did you guys have a dealership install the decals for you?

Lord no...I'm sure they would charge you at least half an hour to 1 hr's rate. Depending on your dealer, you could pay $50 or so for that. I've installed these decals myself on my current 4Runner, on 3 previously owned 4Runners and 2 different 4Runners that belonged to friends of mine.

Like Ron said, the dealer wants about $40 ea for these decals...that $80 total. Online is much cheaper. The only reason I went OEM, is because I got a friend at the dealer and he got me the pair for $40. :)

What do you do about the gas door?

x2 on what Ron said earlier. Apply sticker over both areas while wet, and then cut sticker and allow to dry.

Be careful removing them...I've personally witnessed someone attempting to remove his decals in favor of a different color too and he almost removed the paint with it!

How do you plan on removing yours?

I'm sure if you purchased them at the dealer, they would install them for you...but like I said earlier, I'm sure it will be pricey too; compounded by the fact how expensive the oem decals are already.

It's real easy to install them yourself, but if you would still rather have someone else do it, you are more than welcome to drive to B'ham and I'll install them for you for free! :D

As far as installing the decals on a 2wd, that's totally up to you. I've seen guys install them on both 2 and 4wd.

I've removed a couple of sets with no ill effects so I'll be crossing my fingers when I do mine as I am still leary.

I got the last pair off by soaking the area in windex and forced it under the edges but it did take time then the sticker started to come up and just worked more windex along the peeled up parts.

You can also use a heat gun but you have to be careful not to leave it on one spot too long or it will mess up the paint.

whats probably the best color set up for the Thundercloud Metallic paint job?

Being that I have the same color vehicle as you, I'd have to say that the ones I'm currently running are the best :D.

Those being - White & Black lettering w/ red outline:

where did you order yours from Rock Slide???

Yours look REALLY clean...

From my local Dealership. The only reason I went OEM was because I "know" someone in the parts dept and they got me the pair of decals for $40 out the door. :D

These particular decals are for the '05 and up Tacomas. I believe the dealer sells them for around $45 ea...which is crazy expensive for decals IMO.

(Oh and in case any one was wondering, in that second picture I posted, part of the word "Development" was blurred out by the flash of the camera...it doesn't really look like that in person.)
