I've been looking online and have found a few places to buy a pair of shackles, just checking to see where others have purchased theres from, also my tow rope 2 opening in the rope on each end that i think would be to thick to fit through the Shackle, do they sell a something that could hook/latch through the opening on my rope and then latch onto the Shackle? thanks

I grabbed mine at a farm/tractor supply store called JAX. And I grabbed the ones with the screw-in pins. All you have to do is unscrew the pin, put one of the loops of your recovery strap on the shackle, and put the pin back in.

Jax is awesome for shackles. The ones I bought have a 6 1/2 ton WLL for around 12 bucks each. Pretty good prices

I originally bought a set of Columbus McKinnon M652P shackles. Here are the specs on those:
3/4" / 7/8" pin / WLL 6.5T = 13000lb / 6:1 design factor = 39T = 78000lbs MBS
They are extremely strong but heavy and they don't fit well in the front recovery points on my ARB bumper.
Since then I purchased a pair of 5/8" forged shackles that I have been very happy with. They have a WLL of 5T and a MBS of 54000lbs, more than enough for a 4Runner assuming a reasonable safety factor. Here's a link for those.

depending on your recovery straps, both loops may not fit in the shackle.
until just recently, I had always used 5/8 shackles. but after a run requiring lots of winching, and snatch block use, fighting the 2 ends onto the shackle was a PITA.
I went down and bought a couple 3/4 shackles. much bigger opening, but also a much bigger pin hole required.
I get mine from a local hardware store. they are virtually the same price as I could find online, minus the wait, and shipping.
if you choose to get a 3/4 shackle, make sure your pin hole is large enough. I believe they are 1"
