Where's the oil?

I just changed the oil for the first time in my Toyota 4Runner Sport V8. Newly acquired vehicle. I drained old oil, installed new drain plug gasket, drain plug bolt, new filter and 6 1/2 quarts of 5-20 oil. Started engine up, checked for leaks, and then shut-off engine for a few minutes on level surface. Using engine dipstick, I could not find any measurable oil on dipstick. Drove a couple miles. After couple minutes, again checked oil. There is no residue of oil on dipstick! I am totally perplexed.:wtf:

The shiny dipsticks make new oil, especially 5w-20, very hard to see. Let it cool and check it 1st thing in the morning. Play with lighting vs. the position of the dipstick. You'll see it.

I am assuming the oil pressure light went out... Right?

Yes...oil pressure light went out. Guess I will check again tomorrow during daytime. Thanks!

I changed my oil in my brand new 1998 SR5 and couldn't see it on the dipstick either with out turning and tilting the dipstick around. But it's there, unless its on the ground.
