where's the snow line in Nor-Cal.

Have a form member send me a text saying, "SNOW RUN FRIDAY", I replied back, WHAT SNOW. Asked him, where you think it's at, MT. SHASTA- 10k elevation.

So, just curious if anyone up north or east of the valley of California, knows what elevation the snow might be for off roading.

Depends on where you go but it is down as low as 2500 in places like grass valley and certainly if you go further up towards Tahoe on 80 or 50 from where I am. I'm not sure where snow line is further north but probably 2500-3000 all the way up the range.

So the back off roads are covered with snow? They where suggesting Sly Park area or Ice house. I would be surprised if it even has 6" deep with our high heats and lack of snow storms at 5k elevation.

The fire roads from grass valley up towards Downieville have a surprising amount. Honestly haven't been up there in a week but it was sitting at 18 inches or so a week ago. The further up north you go in that area is pretty sheltered and has been only getting warm for a couple hours a day. If you went up 49 further, your bound to get more options too. Otherwise you are right about the lack of deep snow. You'd have to hit 5000 or so to get deeper stuff and with our lack of storms you are looking at some harder packed stuff now. I'm hoping we get some fresh storms soon because I need to get back out there in the soft stuff!

I'm taking vacation in January, so I'm hoping to get a snow run together for the Nor Cal area. That's assuming there's enough snow...

Just talked to my brother in law and he said there still some up at the 5-6k on Mormon Emigrant Trail road still, just might be more of a packed snow now.

It has just pretty much melted all off on his property in Somerset.
