Which dealer for warranty work?

Coming up on the end of my 6 year extended warranty and I want to have some things addressed. I'd like to go to the dealer right down the street but I bought from a dealer about 15 miles away because the closer dealer didn't have what I wanted. Nothing I've experienced or heard gives me any confidence in the dealer farther away. Rightly or wrongly, I feel the close one is the better risk for mechanical work. On the other hand, I wonder how the fact that I didn't purchase from them might negatively affect the process. Is it possible to warranty shop different dealers?

Usually, I take it back to the selling dealer for warranty work because of rapport. Going to the selling dealer helps if it's one of those borderline items, such as completing a TSB, even though the symptoms aren't readily reproducible.

But selling dealer or not, they are two different departments and usually operate independently of each other. The only people who really care if they're the selling dealer is probably the GM and owner knowing they have a loyal and repeat customer.
