Which FSMs to Buy?

I'm the new owner of a 99 4Runner Ltd 4wd and I'd like to pick up the FSMs. I ordered the Vol2 Repair Manual off amazon and I might order the wiring diagram manual also. What about Vol1 Repair Manual? Does it have anything useful?

I've got the download, including the wring diagram. It's not nearly as convenient as the hardcopy. Is the download equivalent to vol1 and vol2 or just vol2?

I think it should be both.....isn't one of the vols. just engine only? and the other everything else?

Edit: looks like vol 1 = maintenance, preparation, specs and diagnostics
and vol 2 = engine, chassis, body and electrical

Vol2 includes engine on the cover. Here's a picture-

Amazon.com: 1999 Toyota 4Runner Factory Repair Manual (RZN180, RZN185, VZN180, VZN185 Series, Volume 2 - Engine, Chassis, Body, Electrical): Toyota Motor Corporation: Books

Looks like it covers everything. I can't find a picture of Vol1. It retails for half what vol2 does.

I rarely use the wiring manual for my Avalon. I'm thinking I can definitely get by with the online version of that one.

Thanks for the elucidation notray. The online version has both volumes combined. Looks like I should order a fresh cartridge for the laser printer...

Volume I has the detailed descriptions of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (P1135, P0420, etc.) and the detailed troubleshooting procedures you use to determine where the failure is that caused the code. That's 80% of the book and it is pretty essential information. The engine sections in Vol. II are what you use to repair or replace the failed parts now that you know what is wrong. Also essential. I use both regularly. I bought them in '99 before there was any hope of seeing them on-line, but I am glad have the exact book for my year. There is a lot that is different about the '02 on-line from my paper '99.

I did NOT buy the wiring manual, and I haven't really missed it. I have been able to use the on-line one when I have needed to research something.

I bought all the paper FSMs I could find (there must be more)

I bought all the 1997 factory shop manuals and aftermarket DIY manuals I could find.

Here you seem them arrayed on my engine.

In addition to the paper manuals, you might find an online resource here.
