On my older cars, now just a 1991 Previa I use Castrol GTX 10W40 and I change the oil every 3,000 miles.
I think I will change the Mobil 1 a little quicker for my first oil change in the 04. I have 2,500 miles on the oil and it looks darker than the oil after 5,000 miles in the 01. It must really help to use synthetic, also changing oil often, I think is a plus.
I like Mobil 1 because, it is readily available, you can get in on sale and it has good results.

I switched over totally to this product in 1999, when I put it in my 2000 Tundra after break-in (I bought this 2000 Tundra in Sept '99). I change the oil in it (all my vehicles) at 6k miles after the post-break-in Mobil 1 changeover, as it is a great time to rotate the tires too.
I've never had an oil related break down, and that Tundra now has 130k+ miles on it and still purrs like the day I bought her - this after years of towing boats between 2200lbs and 5000lbs as well as a late model race car and its trailer. That late model racer, BTW, also runs exclusively on Modbl 1 synthetic motor oil - the same stuff I put in my street rides - though I use a thicker viscosity in the race car.
I've heard good things about Amsoil, and sadly hear most Amsoil devotees pan on Mobil 1. To each their own I guess, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Mobil 1 IMO, or I'd have already had issues with it in the nearly 10 years I've used it exclusively, and I haven't had any problems. I don't think GM would put it in their cars (the Corvette specifically) from the factory if it were *that* inferior to other products out there.
It also hasn't hurt my John Deere lawn tractor nor my 4-stroke weed-whacker either.
My concern is, the oil turned quickly to a brown color. I bought the car used, there is a good chance the oil was not changed often. By changing it quicker, I am hoping to clean out the engine. Still at 40,000 I am hoping the engine will last. I have looked at these two products, but haven't made a decision:p nut said:The COLOR of the oil won't tell you how well (or not) the oil is doing its job.

For now, I think just changing it often is the best thing for me.

The problem with Castrol is it is from made from Group III,not from PAO/Esters. It looks like the 0W30 from Germany might be a differnt story. I always liked Castrol, to me making synthetic from Group III and not PAO was a big mistake.
