Which LED color

Which color LED to get?

I'm hoping to change out some of the green lights to LEDs soon. I'm going to test them in the air conditioning area, mainly because those are the easiest to get to. From reading other threads I think I need two #74s. Is this correct?

My main quetion is what color I should get, white or blue. Some pictures would be nice.

Where is the best place to order? vled, autoillumation, ozimum?

Interesting. I took mine apart today and saw two. Maybe they changed the number in '97 or '98.

I also noticed that they had little green covers on them. Could I just take the covers off to get a white light? I guess it still wouldn't be LED though.
 
you could try to take the cover off and see how it looks it might be just what you wanted. only trade off from leds is that the leds are brighter and if you do white it could be to bright

hey snowrunner, i just put my order in for those super white LEDs... I also ordered some for the tag lights and all the cabin lights... so when I get them installed I'll post pics...

That would be helpful. There are quite a few of blue LEDs, but not that many, if any, of white. You got them from autoillumination?
 
Yeah I got the lights from autolumination... I think I spent 87.00 all together, cuz I added the cabin lights and the tag lights in the back... but if you do what snowrunner did, my price tag came to 45.00... so yeah hopefully they will arrive next week...

Thanks snow. That looks really bright. I'm sure they can be turned down by using that switch, but wow I'm not sure if I want them that bright.
 
Yeah the dimmer will still work with the LEDs. Just take a closer look at that posted pic and pay attention to the hot spots. They are on the 2 in the tach, at 10-20 mph on the speedo, and 80-100 on the speedo. The hot spots were so annoying to me that I switched back to green incandescents after having white LEDs. Just something to consider before paying for those pricey bulbs.

My edit is that I think I still have the white LEDs in #24 just sitting around. Anyone interested just PM and let me know. I would mail them to you at no charge if I can find them. The only condition is that you would have to post before and after pics for everyone else :D

Will the hot spots be there no matter what, or was it because of the bulbs you used?

Can the bulbs in the footwells be replaced?
 
Hot spots are just the nature of the LEDs. Different types of bulbs may reduce it but I have yet to see anyone eliminate the hot spots in our gauge clusters. Another thing to mention is that the 4x4s have the drivetrain mode indicator in between the tach and speedo. There are 3 clear bulbs in there that are type B neo wedge. Getting the color to match the change made to your other gauges would be difficult because the bulbs are not colored, the lens of the indicator is. Of course I learned all of this the hard way and wasted a lot of time and a little bit of money
 
I did find the 3 #24 white LEDs but from what I understand the 96-98s use 3 #194s. If you can use the #24s let me know
