'06-'09 overall. The pink taillights and squared off fender wells really detracted from the overall appeal of the '03-'05. I do prefer the '03-'05 front end though. If I had a 4th gen I would get 1 in the '06-'09 range with no factory spoiler and an '05 front end.

I like the rear lower bumper reflectors on the rear of the 03 Rnr - makes the rear plastic bumper look less massive PLUS they can be electrified.

I wasn't a big fan of the big side plastic on the earlier models,the squared wheel wells and the hideous pink tails won't be missed and the overall upgrades made the '06+ made me an eventual fan of the 4th gens.

The unique square wheel wells give the early 4th generation models a masculine appearance so that sways my vote.

The only reason I prefer the square wheel wells is because the Shrockworks bumpers were designed for these lines. There is a small gap/curve on the 06+ that doesn't look as good.

my favorite year 4runner

My personal favorite would have to be a 2008 Galactic Gray limited 4x4. I can't stand the rear red inop light housings. It bothers me knowing they serve a purpose, but not mine. I must mod them. I hate the pinky 03-05 tail lights. I must mod them. I want the nerf bars and tube steps or get rid of the silver/gray trim so it can match the rest of the paint like a limited. Or have the roof rack match the running boards if they are the limited black. I have the sport trim so the gray rook rack can stay...for now.

The 2009 has the interior changes I'm not a fan of. I like where the rear window button was, on the center dash, not the console. Yeah give me an 08 limited. Can't decide on v8 or v6. I love having the power and hearing the growl. I hate my MPG in this economy. I thought a good option would be a 5th Gen but I hate the rear view, its not as good as the 4th gen. 5th gen is wonderful but I'm set in my ways with a 4th gen limited. Back to my 2005 sport V8...

2006-09. Took a little while to warm up to the 4th gen styling at first, then the mid gen updates sealed the deal.

06-09. Didn't like em at first but every time I see one that's a sport edition I get a little jealous. It's a nice updated look from the 03-05. I'm not really going to get rid of my 03 for a newer one, but I do like em.

Love the squared off fenders and rear bumper deflectors of the earlier 4th gens, I find it adds an agressive look. The projector beam fogs are great but I wish I had the grille and projector beam headlights from an 06-09, not too mention the extra HP + towing compacity.
