Which One Should I Keep?

Well a couple days a go I was bored searching craigslist and a really clean one owner 99 4wd limited popped up that was only a couple miles away from my house for a really good price. I went and looked at it and ended up bring it home. Now that I have 2 4runners I am having a hard time deciding which one to keep and which one to sell. I thought I would get some insight from some members on here on which one to keep

The first one is a one owner 99 "Highlander" IJM 5 speed, e locked with 225k miles. The interior I would give it a 7/10 and exterior about a 6/10. It has a couple dents on the body and few scratches. The things it needs are timing belt, water pump, LBJ, ITRE, OTRE, tune up, and a radiator. It could also need a clutch because it still have the original one.

The other one is the one owner 99 Limited no elocker with 197k miles. I would give the exterior a 8.5/10 and the interior a 9/10. The things it needs are LBJ, OTRE, radiator, and trans cooler. This is the only picture I have of the limited right now.

Which one do you guys think I should keep? Thanks

Take what you want from the first one and swap it out with the part from the silver one. Keep the silver and that's a wrap.

A agree with fblainen11....

swap the e-locker over, probably front diff too, and enjoy a 99 limted with locker...

the limited with 4x4 has the AWD feature, it's the 1st year with it and only avail on limited's... not the 99 sport.

also, check the other parts out, personally I don't see anything wrong with keeping it around for spare parts, or a parts store putter

things I took from my 97... roof rack (99 broken), antenna internals, inner rear hatch plastic cover, driver-side mirror (99 wouldn't fold in), wheels (newer and they swap).

Haha I can't keep both and I'm not going to swap any parts over. I swapped over the sequoia wheels I bought on to the limited when I got it.

Tough call, green always wins in my book, but that limited does looks sweet.

Depends what you are gonna do with it. If you are DDing and doing only light off-roading, I would keep the 5-speed. This is assuming you don't care about the AWD feature of the limited because you are in TX and don't have to deal with snowy roads. The Highlander package and E-locker will get you through a lot I'd guess (no experience with lockers except on an ATV). The 5-speed will be more fun to drive most likely (no experience with the 3RZ)

If you want to do a decent amount of offroading, and plan on lifting possibly in the future, I would consider the Limited. This is solely based on the fact that it is an auto. I had a stick shift Civic for years, and don't have any experience offroading with a manual, but driving my 'Runner offroad, I really like the auto, and can't see myself making the switch to manual (however, I am interested in someday finding out what it's like to offroad with a stick shift). I enjoy the ease of modulating my forward/backward progress with 2 pedals instead of 3 (this applies mostly to rock crawling type trails)

Also, the Highlander is like the Golden Goose of 3rd Gens, which seriously elevates the awesomeness factor.


Rather pointless edit: Got me thinking, if there was such a thing as a 1999 4Runner Highlander, 5-speed, 3.4 5VZ-FE, E-locked, w/ AWD, I'd probably be drooling just looking at pictures of those things.

How are you going to drive it? Are you going to need e lockers? The limited is nice and sounds like it is in great shape with minimal work needed. id choose that if it's mostly the daily driver.

I'd pick the limited and if you come to the realization that you really need a locker then just get an ARB. They're both really nice though. Tough choices.

Do you still have that marlin clutch? If so...would be a good reason to keep the 5spd! I love my 5spd and wouldnt trade it for a limited but that's me...you are stuck between two good choices my friend.

No I wish I still did lol. Whichever one I keep won't be my daily, it will be my weekend/off road/dog vehicle. It amazes me how after driving both that the 5 speed feels like it seems to have more power compared to the auto.

Keep both of them since one is manual the the other an auto. If you sell one, you will be missing the other

Swap the shite out of them and create one monster 4runner. Then sell off the other....I'm talking 5 speed locked limited in amazing condition and a scoop... then sell a great 99 sr5 auto onto another owner...

If it's not your dd and it's gonna be weekend offroad vehicle then the answer seems simple. Chose the elocked, 5speed, with dents and worn interior that way you don't worry about trashing that pristine looking limited! Plus the green is much better!

The SR5. You are likely to find another clean Limited again, and this one doesn't even have the locker(most Limiteds I have seen have this). Keep that 5-speed + locker and enjoy it.
