which rim size for flush fit?

have a 2000 limited 4runner, looking for flush wheel fitment!

would a 17x9 with 4.75" backspace, and a 1.5" spacer be flush?

tires to go on the rim are nitto trail grapplers, about 33x11.5/17

I'll start off by saying I don't have an answer for you, but "flush" with the fender will depend on how the tire fits on the rim, as the sidwall will bulge past the lip of the wheel. How far that bulge will measure, I have no idea. By law, you have to have fender covering the entire driving surface of the tire, and the tire you go with can influence this as well, I'm not sure how a jerk cop would interpret side lugs like on my Duratracs. While I admit like the look, it may not be real functional as you'll have a much better chance of rubbing under compression, this is more of a car thing than a 4x4 thing.

My wheels have a 3.75" backspacing and it sits perfectly flush with the edge of the flares. So, if the math is correct, then your wheels would sit about a half inch past the larger flare.

It might not be the case in the US, but I beleive it is in the Highway Traffic Act that covers all of Canada. Where is "Live in the middle"?

It might vary a little State to State but here in Washington state you can have tires that are wider than your fender. You are required though to have mudflaps that cover the entire width of the tire.

You are looking at a wheel that is 2" wide with about the same backspacing. (the width of the wheel does not effect the backspacing , it is a measurement from the mounting flange to the inside tire lip) Plus a spacer that is 1/4" wider than mine. I would suspect that that setup would show ~2.5" more tire outside of mine. (wider tires too). With this much sticking out, you will have a lot of rubbing on the front fenders when turning, especially the back side. Most of my rubbing came after I added wheel spacers.

You may be able to run that tire/wheel setup without the wheel spacer (w/o rubbing the UCA)
