This is not true. If you look through some recent threads you can see the government's research article regarding retreaded and new truck tires aided by university research.

They found that a retreaded tire is at no more risk of a blowout then a new tire. They also said the tire fragments on the road are an equal mix of new and retreaded tires.

The article was spurred on by complaints of safety and garbage being left on the road with an attempt to ban re-treads. As usual, this belief was proved false.

I myself did lots of research. Some of which bad, most of which good. The bad was often taken with a grain of salt because most complaints were from people who have never used or owned them. Always a friend of a friend. Very few pictures of proof. The on big one that comes to mind was the Landcruiser roll and one HD Diesel Cummins. The later of which couldn't even answer his air pressure he was running but blamed the tire.

For some odd reason, it appears that those who had ONE issue, had LOTS of issues too. Ie, one tire blew out, then another two after that. This also makes you think it could be user error. For how few issues are reported, those that have one as mentioned have an irregular amount of issues.

The other nice thing about the internet is all, or many good cases don't get reported, whereas all the bad stuff sure simmers to the top. Same with vehicle problems, etc. You know the faults in anything if you put some hours into researching.

I'll be picking my 33's MT this week.


EDIT: Another huge thing people bring up is low air pressure not being warranted by Treadwright. Now, I haven't done the other side of the arguement, but I'm near 100% confident you can't find your new tire is covered under warranty for being run with low air pressure. I don't know why people would assume it still is? I may be wrong, but I find it hard to believe because this is one of the main factors of ANY tire failure. In my opinion Treadwright is just covering their ass on warranty claims because probably 1/2 of their customers use them for off-roading.

I know, I agree. Reread what I say. The ones you actually do see are blown because they are ran for 200,000 miles. My dad was a trucker and I worked as a truck stop manager for years so I would know. They would not blow if they would replace them more regularly. Some companys do, but the private owners usually dont. Yea they get inspected but they really only care about the steer and drive wheels. Not the trailer tires.
