Ok im looking at buying nitto mud grapplers or just the nitto mud trail grapplers here are specs for both.

MUD Grappler: LT305/70R16 E124/121P 201-040 19.7 33.07 12.01 8.0-(9.0)-9.5 3525@65

Trail Grappler (MUD):LT285/75R16 E126/123Q 205-840 19.1 33.03 11.73 7.5-(8.0)-9.0 3750/3415@80

Give me your opinions and let me know which one would buy instead and why? Thanks.

Personally I hate how mud graps look. So I'd say trail graps. But as far as experience goes my friend had both of these tires on a lifted 2500 diesel dodge so take it with a grain of salt. Mud graps: loud, decent road manners, worked in mud extremely well (no suprise), not so good on rocks and such. Trail graps: not as loud, good road manners, cleaned pretty well in mud (not as good but close) way better on dirt and rocks.

Trail graps are some sweet tires. I almost got them in a 315. The only thing that made me change my mind was they are freakin heavy tires! I think the mud grap's look ok but they are loud from the beginning. They whine so loud.

Keep in mind, unless your running wheel spacers or different rims with bigger backspacing you're getting close to the max width before you're gonna see problems with hitting the Upper control arm. A 33x12 is a pretty wide tire.

So 2 things you might want to keep in mind, width and weight. I spent nearly a month of research for what tire was best for me, based off those two specs.

Thanks for the advice. now im not wanting to do 35" or anything just 33" do you think i would be ok with the trails? cause im really starting to lean that way anyways because i look of them better.

I agree with Hepar, load range e is just to stiff for these light trucks, not a fan of nitto. Great all around tire that will not break the bank is Yokohama at/s. If you want a aggressive off road tire, the toyo open country m/t is the strongest production tire made, lasts long, and are just plain tuff. Bfg, poo poo in my book. Had a set of general grabber's, were fine in the dirt, but tracked weird on the road and sucked in the rain. Good year Duratrac is popular around here it seems. You get what you pay for in tires, good tires are not cheap, and cheap tires are not good.

kinda agree with you on the toyo open countrys they are nice. yoko is a no go, i dont want a all terrian looking for a mud. plan on wheeling alot at the badlands with my unlce once i get everything i need. He has a FZJ80 with 6" lift sus. and body and runs 35"s might be uping to a 37" if he can fit them not sure yet though he has some he picked cheap and is going to put them on another set or rims and test fit them. if they dont fit he will re-sell. he wheels about every other weekend with his local land cruiser group.

Take a look at the Hankook Dynapro mt's. Yeah they are an E rated tire but I get better mileage and like them more on the trails than I ever did my ProComp Xterrains. They flex well on trails and are quiet to boot on road.

If you ever want to go for a ride to see what they are like give me a shout

I 3rd on the D vs E rated. I should have stated that when I spoke last. The only reason I decided on E load tires was b/c of my gearing. I wouldn't even consider running 35's let alone a 33 (285) E load tire otherwise. Some E range tires you can get away with, some are lighter than others. The toyo's are a good choice. Coopers are a little on the heavy side, and I dunno if they have a 285 D range but they're good tires as well. Duratracs are one of my favorite tires. I haven't ran them, but our 4Runner community speaks highly of them. So does the jeep community. I only decided against them b/c I wanted a more aggressive pattern. They also do well in snow/ice, given for the fact your from Indiana.

With 6" of lift on an LC he should be able to run 37s no problem. I had 35s on mine with an FOR 3" lift.

I want to side against the duratracs becuase they dont have an aggressive pattern im looking for something that will be quiet on road but perform well offroad. my unlce has been running the nitto trail mtr on his land cruiser for about 2-3 years now cant remember when he got them. i know the land cruiser is a little heavier but he seems to love them and i have rode with him plenty of times and they are quiet. my co-worker has them also and he loves them he says the same and they perform very well offroad. I do plan on re-gearing later down the road prolly late January or early February. when i get the tires and finish getting the lift and everything put on.

If your dead set on a M/T , The toyo is the winner. I run them on my dodge diesel up and down the baja peninsula with no issues, and this is on a truck that tips the scales well over 8000 lbs.

4runner is too light for the toyos IMO. Ran a used set for a couple hundred mile then got some nitto trail grapplers(both were 295/70/17). There is a very noticeable difference in weight, noise, and feel on road. The trail grapplers also have great traction. Duratracs are a solid choice too I have them on my 87 pickup.

i love my Hankook Dynapro MT tires. they ride smooth on paved roads and are much quieter than my previous BFG All Terrains. they also have a unique look to them with the triangle looking pattern on the sidewalls.

I have to agree with you. If I sold my tires I would definitely get a set of these for a DD with the occasional offroad excursion. The tread is noticeably tighter than a BFG but they still work well offroad.

do not put a toyo MT on our trucks, they are such a heavy tire, on average they are 10-15lbs heavier than any other tire(size for size/rating for rating). -there is a reason they do so well on big trucks, they are a heavy heavy tire. i had a set of maxxis bighorns 285 70 17s in E rated and they where 13lbs lighter (each) than my buddies toyo mts he had on his dodge -and i still had more tread than he did. i loved those tires, they did every thing and more i expected from them. looking back on it, i should of bought them instead of the nitto terra grapplers (i love my nittos as well just need a more aggressive tire). so my vote is for the bighorns, take a look at them, you can get them in C, D, and E ratings. for the cost they are hard to beat.

Wow I never really looked at how much the toyo m/t weighs. Almost 10 pounds heavier than my MT Baja MTZs. And I thought they were heavy!
