Which tires?

Hello all,
I have about 36,000 miles on my 2015 4Runner TRD Pro and the original Nitto Tires need replacing.
I would like your input on whether to put another set of Nitto's (specifically Nitto Terra Grappler G2) or go with the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2. The Goodrich tires seem to have better reviews, but I have been quite happy with the Nitto's besides the low thread life. I drive it off-road every other day so if the BF Goodrich tires are better suited I don't mind giving them a try.

I do want to keep to the original tire size.

I just put the Falken WildPeak AT/3 on my '16- great price and Discount Tire has a $75 rebate- they look aggressive and seem good on and off road (so far).

The Cooper STT is a pretty aggressive tire. I love Coopers and would recommend the ST Maxx if you are looking for a heavy and tough carcass tire. Much better street manners.

Between the two options only I say KO2.
If you want suggestions I say duratracs. Rotate them right and you should see 60-70k and they're better off road than the KO2s

Nitto Ridge Grapplers. As good as mudders but with all around usability of all-terrains. Direct competition is Wranglers Duratrac.

I'm getting the Nittos next.
 
Cooper AT3 (also lots of store brand copies), the new Falken Wildpeak ATW, and the General Grabber AT2 are all excellent AT tires (equal or better than the Nittos) and all have a treadlife warranty. The KO2's do not have a warranty.
 
Between the 2 you listed... definitely the KO2's. You will for sure get more mileage from them and they will do at least as well offroading as the Nitto Terra Grapplers if not better. So that takes care of your mileage problem even if everything else is even, as you do seem to like the terra grapplers besides the tread life. Now my second choice not in your list of 2, especially if you wanna stay stock size, would be the Goodyear Wrangler MTR's. They aren't a super high mileage tire but they will surpass 36,000 without a doubt and they are awesome offroading,which it looks like you do a lot!

Winter tires

I am looking at the Nokian Hakkapelita R2 for the winter season (mix of dry pavement, packed snow and deep snow) which lasts about 7 months here in the Yukon. Can't wait to get them!
 
36k miles on a set of tires? For such a massive vehicle, I'd say 36k is awesome!

We're at 10k miles on our 2016 Trail on the stock Dunlop whatever they are (AT20?) and we're at 5/32 according to the last dealer visit. The wear bars look like they're at 2/32, so I'm thinking before winter, I'm'a need some new shoes for this thing.

Visually, they're pretty well worn, missing large chunks of tread etc.

Just googled them, allegedly they have a 60k treadwear warranty? HAH.

Anyway, whatever you do, I don't recommend AT20's. If you got 36k from Terra Grapplers... I'd probably recommend those again?

What are folks getting out of KO2's on 5th gens treadwear-wise?

I've gotten 55k-60k on KOs I've ran on other vehicles in the past. Will be giving the K02s a try for the first time in a couple weeks when I replace my Grabber AT2s. My understanding is I should easily get 60k+ out of the K02s if rotated properly.

I will also say that I have been very pleased with the AT2s. I have gotten 45-50k out of them without rotating them very well at all and could easily run them another 10-15. Just want something bigger and more aggressive after I lift here in a couple weeks.

I've considered these as well due to the ability to get the 285s in a load C. It will be these or the K02s.
 
I pulled the NITTOS of my TRD and went with 275's KO2's, E load. I was at first worried about the weight of them, since most people in forums said E load is unnecessary and too heavy, but quickly found all those comments were irrelevant to what the reality was. The KO2s are much quieter and i still get the same mpg's as with the Grapplers...and the peace of mind when we are off the grid is priceless. I had around 15k on the Grapplers before I switched and main reason I changes was due to due puncture concerns. Hope this helps a bit....Cheers!

I think the biggest issue people have is not rotating or letting Toyota rotate them. With my duratracs I rotated every 5k and, after 21k miles, I had 14-15 of the original 18/32s left. Get them rotated somewhere like discount that actually measures the tread wear and rotates accordingly. Not just back to front..

Jumping in on the tire rotation... I completely agree a good rotation every 5,000 miles does wonders on mileage you can get. I move front tires to rear and cross them and move the rear straight forward. That way each tire is on all 4 corners of the vehicle and continues its way around as you keep rotating each time. I have gotten crazy miles out of tires rotating like this. Just got new tires after getting 83,000 miles on a set of 275/70/18 BFG KO2's on my 2011 Chevy 1500 Z71. Hope that makes a little sense! Hard to explain without a diagram!
