Which UCA's to go with

They are sealed like the OE. Life of them, hmm not sure but according to Mike (Dobinsons guy), a few folks have had them last just as long if not longer than the OE ones.

I am not sure either as the Dobinsons have only been out for about a year now and he is saying that they last as long or longer then OE. That's a problem if OE or Dobinsons only last a year or so.

It is true the 4runner UCA's have been out about a year, but the ball joint in the UCA's is rather standard. I am pretty sure the same ball joint is used in other UCA's for other vehicles. And this is what Dobinson Mike was referring to.

Dobinson's use Sankei 555 ball joints

Thinking about adding Dobs UCA to my 19Pro when I put the new Eibach 1.6” lift spring on the stock fox shocks. Potentially a dumb question but when maxing our the caster using these do they move the wheel forward in the wheelwell to allow more clearance to the body mount and mud flap? Anyone know if 285s on stock Pro wheels have clearance issues with the UCA?

I’m also debating using a 1/4” top out spacer to get a bit more lift in the front, adding 1.5” or 2” springs in rear, and putting on 34” tires. Would like to get the wheel forward a bit like people do with the SPC UCA for the larger tires. I don’t like the SPC as much due to risk of adjustment sliding around after setting it. Rather get the Dobs.

You might have to push the front fender liner forward remove the mudflaps with 285s as they could rub a little when articulated. Not using Pro wheels but with trail wheels i was pretty much good on the road with 285s. Removed the mudflaps eventually as they rubbed a little when full compressed. No issues naw. If you're planning on running 34s, you will most definitely need to do a BMC. And yes, increasing caster does move the wheel forward and away from the body mount. I got about 3.9 from my dobinsons (2-2.5 lift somewhere ish).

Thanks. Most interested in clearance between tire and UCA. Realize BMC, no mudflaps and moving fender liner forward are needed.

Wondering if I’ll need wheel spacers so the tire will clear the uca. I believe I would with JBAs which is why I’m asking.

I believe it was only an issue with the JBAs. That and I dont think the offset of the Pro wheel (+7) will cause any issues with the Dobby UCAs. Crikeymike can provide more insights.

Clearance from the coils to the UCA's will be fine with the Dobinsons UCA's.

Between the tire and the UCA, the Dobinsons have as much clearance as you can get since the ball joint cup doesn't have "excess meat" around it like the JBA's do. That being said, wide tires on stock wheels with a bad offset can still possibly make contact with UCA's.

my UPA

I have total chaos on my '19 with 305/70's with King suspension and SPC with BP51's on my '12 with 285/70. very happy with both but truly love my '19 with the king total chaos set up. a little tlc every now and then which is normal and they give you even move love back. On the '12 I put my stock Trail wheels from the 19 on and on the '19 I have 17 x 8 wheels with -10 offset and 4.1 BS and they fit great.

I was close to pulling the trigger on SPC, Bilstein and OME. After more research, ended up with Ironman Nitro stage 2 kit. The forged UCA is beefy and uses OEM ball joint & bushings. For my 95% on road and light off road use, it was a great choice. No rub on UCA with TRD OR wheels and KO2 285 70 17 load C’s. After 6 weeks, I’m very satisfied. At under $1,200 for the full kit, it’s a bargain lift option.
